We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, how do you think about risk?
Risks have had a huge role in my career. Deciding to quit corporate work in order to pursue a career in photography was full of risk-taking. You have to take risks in order to get things done. The unknown is what makes risks seem so terrifying. But when you want something bad enough you have to be willing to see risk as an opportunity for change and growth, instead of something to fear. If not for risks, I’d still be dreaming, and hoping for a fulfilling career instead of enjoying one. The freedom and happiness I feel are worth every risk it took to get here.

What should our readers know about your business?
Aside from having some amazing personal influences, having many unique experiences in photography, like shooting for the Los Angeles Clippers to working with companies like Netflix and Dreamworks, lead me to discover a passion for business in photography. After a while, I didn’t feel right in my heart doing anything else, and it seems like everything in my life pushed me towards this creative career. Was it easy? Of course not, but trying to make your dreams come true never is. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is trusting the process, learning to never fear letting go or moving on, and knowing my worth and recognizing my true value. I learned that failure is just a new opportunity to gain more experience and not something to fear or let stop you from succeeding. A Photography career makes me feel so alive and free, I couldn’t see myself doing anything else. And the universe kept putting me into positions to keep getting closer to a creative path and now I’m here and so grateful! I want others to know that following your dreams may be scary, but the reward is worth it! And once you make the decision to pursue your dreams, the universe will work with you to make them come true! So don’t fear the jump, because you will create the parachute you need to land safely. You are capable, so believe in you!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being that I am an LA native, I would show my friend the parts of LA nobody thinks about. Take them hiking in some of the best canyons, take long drives up the coast, visit beaches, museums, and some of the hidden LA treasures many don’t know exist. Being a huge fan of picnics and road trips, we would definitely spend the week exploring the city while grabbing our favorite foods, and eating them picnic-style, and taking in some amazing views, and sunsets, while talking about our goals and aspirations!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a very big shout out to the woman that gave me my first opportunity in photography. It started with an internship opportunity, and from there Tiffany Arnold became the best mentor I could ask for. She not only fully supported my dreams, she provided the tools and training I needed to be able to create my own business. She showed me how to open doors for myself, while literally handing me clients to get me started. I owe a lot of my success to her, and I’m truly grateful for the universe connecting us.
