We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Kansinally and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My business helps the community and the world because it caters to the mental health needs of pregnant and postpartum women. I provide a safe space for these women to relax, let their guards down, be vulnerable and talk about the difficulties that they’re experiencing. These women have a lot to think about when it comes to their baby’s health, managing a family, their careers and so much more and that often causes them to neglect their own health and well-being. I help my clients remember to not neglect themselves and show up for themselves as much as they show for everybody else.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is dedicated to helping black women because too often they are put down, overlooked and made to feel small. I’m trying to do everything in my power to uplift, support and encourage black women.
I got to where I am today business-wise by believing in myself and being willing to take risks. Not every business venture I started or tried has been successful but I’m still going. I’ve had my failures and of course those moments haven’t been easy but I know that no one who is considered successful has made it to that point without taking some losses. I’m motivated by my desire to accomplish my goals and that’s what keeps me pushing. I’m still learning and growing everyday and I won’t stop until I accomplish every one of my goals.
I want the world to know that my brand is all about feeling good mentally, showing up for yourself and treating yourself like royalty.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was coming to visit and stay a week with me our time would mainly be spent eating and laughing. The breakfast spots I would take her to would be Miss Shirley’s Cafe, Blue Moon Cafe and Golden West Cafe. At Miss Shirley’s Cafe we would split the “Funky Monkey Bread” as an appetizer and we would both have the “Chicken and Waffles” as our entrees. At Blue Moon Cafe we would both have hot chocolates, the Cap n Crunch French toast and the biscuits and gravy. At Golden West Cafe We would share the breakfast tacos and bacon egg and cheese sandwich with hash browns and drink a cold brew coffee.
For lunch we would go to chef Bobby D’s, Water for Chocolate and wicked sisters. At chef Bobby D’s V with Cher their mango habanero wings as an appetizer, then have their Hawaiian glazed salmon and shrimp and grits as our entrees. At Water for Chocolate we would start with the parmesan spinach dip, followed by the blackened mahi-mahi over cauliflower rice and The chef’s cut New York strip with duck fat fingerlings and we would enjoy a pitcher of the dope juice as our beverage. At Wicked sisters we would start with the crab dip and the sweet and spicy brussel sprouts then for our entrees we would have the turkey burger and the McCabe burger and for drinks we would have sangria.
Lastly, for dinner we would go to Mo’s Seafood and Peppa Flame. At Mo’s Seafood we would start with Maryland’s Cream of crab soup, then we would both have the jumbo lump crab cake entree and a glass of white wine. At Peppa flame we would start with an order of the jerk chicken spring rolls and a vegetable spring rolls. Then we would have the whole snapper and curry chicken for our dinner.
For fun we would visit the Inner Harbor in Baltimore and take a day trip to DC where we would play Top Golf and visit the National Harbor.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well, my response is going to be a little cliche but I have to shout out my parents because all my life they have been by my side supporting and encouraging me in everything that I do. My parents rarely question anything I tell them I’m going to do and I am very thankful for that because when they do question me it’s a lot haha but I know they are doing it out of love. When I tell them about my business ventures they never put me down even if they don’t quite understand how I will get it done and I really appreciate them for that.
