We had the good fortune of connecting with Bailen Estrada and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bailen, why did you pursue a creative career?
I always knew I wanted to do it. Ever since I held a camera in my hands at the age of 10. I was always fascinated by movies and the thought that goes into them to make the audience feel a certain way. Then as I got older and started trying new things one thing flowed into another and now Im an artist
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I honestly just do what my body says. I dont try to recreate other art I just make my own and it has a certain style to it. ive had people come up to me and say they can tell my film/photos from other peoples because of my style. the only reason I am where I am today is because I trusted the process and went with the flow. If you told me last year at the age of 17 that I would be moving to LA and working with some of the biggest companies in the nation and flying across the country for my work, I would ignore you. However this past year has not been easy by any means. Since Im so young there are people who look at me differently and I have to figure out this adult thing as well while being ahead of the curve. The only way I could’ve overcome these things is take it day by day you know? What I want each and everyone of you to understand is that your age doesn’t matter in the creative world and that was something hard for me to process. I started my photography business, Baiflix, at the age of 17 in a small town and no one took me seriously until they saw my work.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to there beach then go and grab tacos from a. taco stand. Then show go into the mountains to see the view of the city. There is just so much to do. My favorite things to do is just see the things that I didnt get the chance to see when I was younger because of where I lived
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My photographer in high school definitely gave me the sense of self belief and that it is possible to pursue my goals that I had in mind without looking back. I would even say if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t be where I am today. Obviously my parents as well for not forcing me to do what they want but instead trusting me and my process. Especially only being 18 and moving across the country to pursue my dreams. Also, my friend Leo! He came to almost every photoshoot of mine and helped and was on this crazy journey with me. We even won the best duo superlative in high school.
