Meet Berenz Castro Daniel | Hair Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Berenz Castro Daniel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Berenz, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think the story of risk is a tale as old as time that has been proven to be effective. Now, putting it to work in my own life and career was much harder than I imagined! I was living the corporate life working a 9-5 job in El Segundo. I thought I was happy until one of my closest friends, Preston from Beauty School, started to bring me to set to assist him. A fire ignited and began to burn in my heart. My passion for creating as a hair stylist was back! I instantly knew I had to take a leap of faith and risk leaving my stable job to pursue this life. I quit my job and started a journey into the freelance world. I was excited and determined to make this work.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In being a creative, I firmly believe we must always be learning, teachable heart & teachable mind are my two sayings I have on repeat in my head. I learned to embrace new ways to achieve looks. With the help of people I consider my mentors: Castillo’s incredible ambition & tenacity, Malcolm Marquez‘s quiet confidence in his art, and Vittorio Massecchia’s eye for beauty have all allowed me develop new ways of thinking, creating and allowing inspiration to flow. My story and brand of who I am is to walk in gratefulness and create with passion.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a Peruana born in Lima, Peru so naturally they are coming to my house and I am cooking llomo saltado and spending some time with me and my family. We would absolutely be hiking Fryman canyon with Karen and head back to my place to of course glam! We make our way to Hollywood for the night and visit my sister Jazzy at Grand Masters Recorder’s rooftop bar. My favorite thing to eat after a night out is Ramen, we go to Jin-yah in Studio City. We go watch Kennedy Williams perform at Mama Lion in L.A, and enjoy live music. We end the week in Catalina island because I love me a one hour ferry ride on the ocean.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to my ride or die, Preston Wada, without you I wouldn’t be in love with my life. You truly opened doors for me, vouched for me, introduced me to wonderful people and pushed me out of the nest when you knew baby bird was ready to fly. I love you boo!
