We had the good fortune of connecting with Big Swede and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Big, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?

I feel that the most important thing is to be consistent. It takes time to build a business or a brand. You have to get used to no’s, disappointments and even getting screwed over. My life is one big rejection, ha! I followed my intuition. I wanted to create, write and make my own music. I wanted to see what I could create and learn along the way. Learning and experimenting propels it forward. I never knew if anybody would listen or like it – or where it would end up. You just put it out there. It is the same thing for every song I finish. I taught myself everything I know about writing music and music production. I did spend half my life playing drums and studied classical piano when I was a kid. This is definitely not for someone that wants safety and security. You do it because you have no other choice. It is still an adventure on a rollercoaster – it goes up and down. It’s not enough to do one song. You have to do many!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I have always been interested in all kinds of music. So I have enjoyed creating music in many different styles and exploring those styles. It might have work against me sometimes because people don’t know what box to put me in. I work in aggressive electronic music, jazz & downtempo, latin vibes, edm, pop, hip hop, rock, experimental, metal, blues etc. At this time I have a little over 900 tracks in my catalog. I think I make the best music when I just let it flow and there are no parameters to follow. You can have a concept and idea but everything needs to be open inside of it. I try to give it a BS stamp! When I have guests on my songs I never tell them what to do. I let them do their thing inside the song. One of my traits is definitely being relentless. That’s a must! A few credits incIude music for NCIS, CSI, KUWTK, The Mentalist, Lie To Me, Mercedes, Lowe’s and Samsung. I am releasing a bunch of different music coming up. Some of those songs have guests like Ebbot (The Soundtrack Of Our Lives), Johnny Griparic (Walter Trout), Jimmy Z (Eurythmics), Quist (Bryan Ferry), Michael Devin (Whitesnake), Patrick Stone (Budderside), Miles Evans (Gil Evans Orchestra), Oscar Hernandez (Spanish Harlem Orchestra) and Rod Jackson (Slash’s Snakepit), among others. I just got new sub-publishers in India and France/Monaco/Andorra with more countries to follow. It opens up for productions and collaborations in those countries. I have some other ideas about the Big Swede brand outside of music that possibly could be worth exploring. When it comes to creativity it feels like I barely got started!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I just relocated to Palm Desert after having my business in my Penthouse in Downtown LA for 17 years. I had that place for 19 years and I started my business there 17 years ago. My ex introduced me to Palm Springs. She took me here a long time ago and we used to come regularly. I love DTLA but the vibe changed and decided on the desert. I am located on the hill above El Paseo which is well known for many stores and restaurants.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A lot of people helped me along the way but if I have to mention “one” it is my parents Ulla & Sixten Svensson. Amazing what they did for me at an early age and forward all thru my life. I remember my mom driving me to my first piano lesson when I was 7. My dad bought me my first drum kit and I remember playing it for many years in our basement. They put up with a lot of “BS”….. It’s been quite the adventure and they have seen it all!
