We had the good fortune of connecting with Blane Charles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Blane, how do you think about risk?
One of our mottos at BCD is “Step out of your comfort zone and into your Magnificence!” And as the founder of Blane Charles Design, I live by these words.

One thing that I did realize is that if you’re going to live by these words, you must learn to get comfortable in the uncomfortable. There have been and will be pit stops along the way. And as much as I would resist, it was here where I learned valuable lessons and made wonderful connections

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In all that I do, it’s not what I do, but how I make my clients feel that is of paramount importance to me. As a non binary African American in this world, I know firsthand what it means to be recognized, honored, and celebrated. I’m grateful for every obstacle, challenge or road block that I have encountered. I look at each one as an opportunity to dig deeper. My level of compassion and empathy infuses everything that I do. We each have a mission that only we can fulfill and it’s critically important that we accomplish whatever that mission is..

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since my return from living abroad in 2000, Chelsea has been and is my heart and home. And one of my favorite places to show my friends and great time on Friday night is at CAFETERIA with DJ Lina good food, drinks and music, the perfect combination to create magical moments.

In the morning, we would head to KOBRICK COFFEE in the Meat Packing District. This is a cozy place for breakfast and lunch.

Another hot spot where I had the opportunity to collaborate on the interior design is HIDE ROOFTOP perched on top of The Artezen Hotel located in the heart of the Wall Street area. This is where I take my friends to catch up with each other.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I want to honor my parents and the tough love they showed as African Americans fulfilling their dreams here in America. My father, Lewis C. Mosley, ran a successful business for over thirty years before my sister took it over. My mother, Gloria Mosley, taught me how to be resourceful. She was a master at stretching that American Dollar.

As a peace activist supporting the efforts of The Soka Gakkai International, I have the fortune of encountering a wonderful mentor, Daisaku Ikeda who, leading by example, made me aware of the unlimited potential that resides within all of us. That make the impossible possible kind of force that when aligned with the Universe has no limits!

My life coach, Kathleen Booker, was very instrumental in helping me lay a solid foundation for the Blane Charles Empire. And in comes my business coach, Kai Cole who continues to keep me on track with the many entrepreneurial dreams I continue to fulfill.
