We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandilynn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandilynn, can you tell us about a book that has had a meaningful impact on you?
When I read the book, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” it impacted me as a coming of age book. Growing up as an outsider I resonated with the main character as he navigates throughout the book. It takes place in high school which was a crucial part of my teen years. I was the weird rocker girl (or wallflower) who was bullied & finding my way, while also going through a lot of at home traumas. I felt like this book truly impacted me as I could connect to the main character and his hardships, but also as he finds his friends and tries to live his life even though he has trauma in his home life too. There’s a part in the book where there’s a line that says: “and in that moment I swear we were infinite” and that resonated with me so much that I wanted to live for infinite moments in life because although life is hard, it can be beautiful if you find those moments to cherish.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is my collection of tattoos that when I model are telling my stories in photos. Modeling has given me confidence & I find this great sense of freedom doing it. I think my sets me apart is I’m really just this genuine soul trying to create and spread magic! Getting to where I am today was not an easy road, but I’m proud of where I am and meeting all the people who have helped transcend my journey.
I learned to trust your intuition because it truly alerts you of how your feeling.
My brand and is me and my story. I live a very open, honest and transparent life. I want to spread & live magically so I want to be known as exactly that. The girl who is open about life’s hardship but finds the magic too.
My podcast will be a year old in May & what an incredible year of stories I’ve been told. Doing my podcast has been so good for my soul and I hope for others who watch/listen. Learning about so many different peoples stories of their careers/lives/hardships/triumphs has been so magical. I want my collection of Rad Chat’s to inspire people to tell their stories and learn about so many different people/topics.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hmm this is hard. In Los Angeles there is so many places to go! I guess the closest, cutest little spot to me is Montrose. It’s such a cute little town that you can walk up & down the town square area and so many good places to eat. They have a great sushi place called Bluefish (order the sushi burrito) & an amazing restaurant called Town (order the tiramisu martini).
It’s a really cute hangout spot with both Coffee Bean & Starbucks too.
Also, I take everyone to Rad Coffee (Upland or Covina) because it’s legit the best coffee shop ever! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are sooo many people who have helped me along my journey.
