We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think about risk taking as a chance to exemplify that talents God has given us. It becomes a two-way road on whether we want to bet on ourselves and pursue or dreams or sit back and fund someone else dreams. Risk taking has played a foundational role in the passion I found as Full time Personal Trainer. It has shifted my focus from building someone else dream to building my own dream.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am currently a Full Time Personal Trainer specializing in lower body muscle growth. I am an independent contractor based out of Self-Made Training Facility in Long Beach. I wake up loving my job every single day. What sets me apart from everyone else is my genuine care for each and everyone of my clients. I have a passion for changing lives physically and mentally. I go the extra mile for you if your are willing to put in the work. The position I am in today did not come easy but was well worth it.

My fitness career started at the peak of my life. when I first started training, I was a newly college graduate, my son Israel had just been born and I had decided to demote myself to part time at my well-paying job. It was sink or swim at this point. My first Personal Training job started at 24 Hour Fitness. It was here that I realized that Personal Training was the career I wanted to see myself in. One Year into my time with the company COVID hit. I was laid off from the gym and stuck in the situation of what to do next. A client I had been training was the first to spark the idea of training outside of the gym. He offered to let me train him and his wife in their home gym. From that moment on it was all gas no brake. I began to go on all the bargain websites and buy spare weights. 5lb, 10lb, 25lb it didn’t matter if I could find it I bought it. I build a full home gym under a gazebo in my back yard and started training out of the back yard. This was the start to a beautiful story.

Eventually I transitioned to both in-person and online training due to COVID. Most of my clientele was made up of females looking to build confidence in their body through gaining muscle in their lower body. One of the best resources I bought was cloth resistance bands from Amazon. I would them in bundles and would always have the same problem. The bands were usually too small or too big to be used. I started brain storming and eventually came up with the idea to create my own set of Cloth resistance bands. I made my bands tailored for all shapes and sizes of people. The business was a success and is now a staple on my personal training business. All this started out of my backyard but I knew I was destined for more.

One day as I trained out of my backyard it rained for a week straight. Meaning no training. As I sat in the house scrolling Instagram, I came across a gym I that caught my interest. The thought of working out of a private gym had never crossed my mind but, seeing this gym peaked my interest. I thought on the idea for days and ran the idea passed a few of my clients. They all said the same thing. Go For It! that was the affirmation I needed to make my next move.

Currently my resistance band business is thriving and the transition to the gym was the best choice I ever made. my business has grown so much that I took a leap of faith and have quit my part time job. I am solely my own boss and could not be happier. I enrolled in a Master Program in Kinesiology to become a Professor. I want to share my experiences God put me through with others to show them that anything is possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite spot to visit are The Pike in Long Beach. Long Beach is a hidden gem of fun activities to do. Paddle, Boarding, Fishing or just skating on the beach can all be done in Long Beach. Runyon Canyon is another on of my favorite spots the walk up is just as beautiful as the Hollywood sign at the top. My Fiancé and I are foodies so a definite go to spot would be Aikan Sushi & Ramen in Artesia. Some of the best All you can eat sushi in Los Angeles County! Korean BBQ would also be on the menu at Gangnam KBBQ in Lakewood.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank God for giving me the opportunity to find a passion in life. My mom Michele Watson has been the largest impact in my life. with out her none of my success would have been possible. I want to especially thank my Fiancé Regina Devaughn. You have been one of my biggest supporters from Day 1. When I was unsure about getting into Personal Training you lifted me up. You encouraged me to take the leap of faith. I want to thank my mentor Ian Michael for recommending my for this honor. I want to thank my clients for trusting my with their fitness journey.
