We had the good fortune of connecting with Breanne Yarbrough and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Breanne, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor in being successful or having a successful brand is belief. Belief in yourself, and belief in your product, almost to the point of delusion. You need to drink your own KoolAid. If you don’t see the value in what you are offering no one else is going to either. The confidence and passion you bring to your customers, potential investors, or potential business partners is contagious, and will guarantee your perseverance when things get tough, because success won’t happen overnight.
What should our readers know about your business?
The name of our coffee shop is Joe Coffee. We are located in the heart of the North Hollywood Arts District in Los Angeles. We opened our doors in 2014 and were one of the first coffee shops in the city to offer CBD as an add on to any of our beverages. The in-store success of that lead us to create our CBD Coffee retail brand Happy Joe. We offer CBD infused K-cups, whole beans, and single-serve pour over kits for at home brewing.
I couldn’t be more proud of the brand we have created. We have poured our blood, sweat and tears into our business, and it is truly become a reflection of us. I wouldn’t call it easy, but when you are doing what you love with people that you love, the hard work doesn’t seem so bad. There is a lot of competition in the coffee space. With the market being so saturated and a Starbucks on every corner, it can be difficult to find your place. The lesson we have learned is to find your niche and stay true to it. Be you. Don’t let what the other guys are doing, or the success of other shops change what you feel is right for your business.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
At our house, every visitor’s stay begins with a trip to the Thai spa. Foot and back massages are the best after a long flight! After that the week would be filled with trips to Malibu and the beach, shopping at the Grove and treasure hunting at the Fairfax Flea market. Movie nights at the Hollywood Forever cemetery are always a good idea, or a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Our favorite restuarants include, Craig’s in West Hollywood, Mexican food El Compadre on Sunset Blvd., lunches at LALA’s on Melrose, and Sunday brunch at LA’s biggest food market Smorgasburg in DTLA. People watching and catching up over a glass of wine on the patio in Beverly Hills, and to finish off the week, a body scrub and sauna session at the Korean Day spa, Wi Spa in Korea Town.
The best part about LA is that there is ALWAYS something to do!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The people you surround yourself are also important to your success. Lucky for me I have had the privilege of working with my husband Joe for the last 10+ years. We’ve built businesses together as well as a life to share. He is my motivator, as well as my reality check, and I wouldn’t have been able to do any of it without him.
