We had the good fortune of connecting with Bret Shuford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bret, how does your business help the community or world?
We are a married LGBTQ couple who make their living in the arts. Growing up this was not something we ever saw visibly as a healthy example of a relationship. We want to inspire young LGBTQ people and people who want to make a living in the arts by showing them they can have a long healthy relationship. It’s important that people know they are seen.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I think what makes me unique as an entrepreneur is that while I support artists, I continue to pursue my own art. Having someone who is walking the talk is so important. I want to walk alongside the people I help in my coaching so they know they have a friend and a peer. Balancing all of the things I do is definitely challenging, but it’s incredibly rewarding as well.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Laguna Beach is my favorite beach ever! I love the walkability, the food, the rocks, it’s gorgeous. Also, being that I’m a huge Disney fan, I have to take in Disneyland, the original theme park that started it all.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would say that the Artist’s Way is the most influential book in my life. Without Julia Cameron’s guidance I never would have confidently come out of the closet or gotten sober. These two events have helped me find my path and a family that I never thought I would have.
