We had the good fortune of connecting with Brigitte Oliva & Nia Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brigitte & Nia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When we first got the idea to open up our own studio , it was just the right timing. We were both tired of working for different salons and not being able to manage our own schedules. We wanted to create a fun, intimate and safe space for anyone to come and get their nails done with us.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Welcome to our world of Nail art. We met 10 years ago in a nail bar in North Hollywood. Where it all started from co- workers to besties and now we both share a nail studio in the heart of Tarzana, California. Our journey in learning how to express our art through small canvas has been rewarding. It has helped us as artist to share our creative gifts and making our clients happy along the way.

What sets us apart from any other studio is our partnership and energy our studio provides. We provide a place where you can be yourself and at the same time share some girly time. Share some laughs and even tears together. Through the years we have met many amazing people and also not so great. But those that have been loyal we are forever grateful for you to be part of our beauty conscious family.

We are most proud of the clientele we have build upon the years, always bringing us new trends and ideas for their nails.
We would say at first it wasn’t easy to build a steady clientele, we had no idea how to but to just put ourselves out there and let our art do all the talking. We give our best when it comes to taking our time with each client. Being attentive and at service.

Each experience is a learning experience and with learning there’s lessons. As a black and brown woman business we had to learn to value our work and give ourselves credit for our magical work. As artist we can be our worst critic and not think our work is worth our price. Our biggest lesson would be charging for our time, art and creating masterpieces on 10 small canvases.

We would love to show and tell the world that there is Nail technicians that care about your nail health and providing great nail salon experiences.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Los Angeles is full of fun things to do! If our best friend was coming into town and wanted some fun girly time, we would take her to Beauty Conscious to hook her up with some artsy nails! A nice brunch at Santa Monica where we would feel the cool breezes of the beaches! Rides some bikes down to Venice and check out the boardwalk. Wait around for sunset time and watch the sun go down. Look up for meditation studios that provide sound baths to rejuvenate our mind , body and soul!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our shout out goes to all of our supporters in our journey. All the woman who gave us a chance in creating something beautiful on their nails means so much to us! We love you!
