Meet Camy Anthony | Founder & CEO of Culture Curated LA

We had the good fortune of connecting with Camy Anthony and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Camy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’ve always felt if you don’t risk anything, your’e risking even more; and I’m definitely guilty of playing things safe because of fear; but it took me a long time to accept that fear will always keep you stagnant. Ive learned that anything that involves putting yourself outside your comfort zone your’e taking a chance. Creating an event brand in a city I’m not from, knowing no one, but still wanting to give a different experience is the biggest risk I’ve taken thus far. Culture Curated LA has taught me that never second guessing my self is what’s going to set myself apart from everyone else. The event industry is full of things we’ve seen before, places we’ve been, but bringing new innovative ideas and themes to the LA is what keeps the creativity flowing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I created Culture Curated LA essentially for the people who probably don’t have a lot friends out here in the LA area but still want to network. Coming from different parts of the US but still having the ‘LA dream’ along with our creativity, sets us apart from the any other brand we’ve seen. I’m excited about what we have planned coming up in 2023; more fun themed networking events, mixers, and social gatherings is in store. Our goal is always to push our boundaries in the event industry with our curating style. I’m most proud of how far myself and my team has come; it started with something we didn’t see, so we created it. We’ve reached people from the DC and Maryland area and even connect with LA locals. It was never easy getting to where we are, of course we still have a long way to go, but the road thus far has had its obstacles with competitors with similar events, venue owners, budgets, and bottle inventory, but there’s always a solution to any problem. As long as we remain focused on our goal and what we’re trying to bring our audience. This journey has taught a lot of lessons along the way, the most important one is that everyone on our team is sticking to a task at hand and that were constantly prioritizing. Everyone on our team has a specific talent or brand that contributes to the success of our events, i’ve also learned that harnessing that creativity and talent is what will always get us through anything.
I want the world to know that every industry is big enough for you to succeed, don’t get discouraged by how difficult you think it might be, don’t let fear hold you back, no matter what area of work you are in. nobody has done it the way you have and thats your biggest flex against others.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, my number one favorite burger spot I tell everyone about is OH My Burger. Black-owned, in Gardena and always worth the wait, they serve my favorite burger the Oh my Luther, a burger with glazed donuts as the buns. They serve vegan options and their menu is amazing! They feel like home and always remember my name. If burgers wasn’t my friends favorite option Id have to recommend Comfort LA, they put a clean spin on soul food. They have a signature amazing sauce called “dat sauce” and all of their menu options have that home cooked taste. One of my favorite places to chill and hang out is called 82. A 80’s themed bar arcade; one side is arcade video games and the other side has pinball machines; its always a great chill spot for gatherings. Their drinks are always very potent and the DJ’s mixes keeps the vibes right. Joeys is my go to restaurant thats feels upscale and casual at the same time, but on the weekend you can go directly across the street, to Shoo Shoo baby, a hidden lounge like atmosphere and enjoy great vibes and music. Grand Central Market is a place you have to visit if you’re downtown LA because they pretty much have everything, different restaurants, fresh produce, dried. fruit, spicy candy, etc. The last place I call my favorite is a dessert restaurant and bar, Better Than Sex. I’m a sucker for indulgent, sweet or chocolate things, and they have it all. Special Dessert inspired drinks and colossal desserts.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First of foremost, Culture Curated LA wouldn’t be anything without the Fam, the partners that all help bring the events together. The success of this brand is only because of the people that helped build it Dominic Jeudy and Stedman Hinds, not only are big part of the brand but their business Snapshot photo booth helps capture memories at every event. Paris Ukattah owner of Paris Designs, creates and designs our merchandise and curates the events selections as well as our signature guest take home goody bags. TK Richardson, who is a talented LA Actor and Dancer, controls the logistics of our attendees list, and always puts on friendly door entertainment. We all work collaboratively with our talents to bring the best types of events to LA. The Next group of people who need the biggest and loudest shout out this year is LiveLoveLife Entertainment and its Founder, host and CEO Maurice Williams; without Maurice as host and his event brand, the biggest collaboration of the summer wouldn’t have been possible. He puts is vision to life and always makes a way out of no way. Both of our missions align to to our attendee groups, to ensure everyones fun experience. Howard Reyes is a brilliant Videographer and filmmaker with his production Ninja Production, he makes our recap videos unimaginably epic. DJ Exclusive who is a multi talented DJ and host has always kept our events going up, while bringing out his supportive crowd. We also have to recognize talented Celebrity Photographer Matthew Payne for his amazing shots, DJ Social for also keeping the crowds energy up, and last but certainly not least a big thank you to Greg Wilson and Daniel Sean Lee for all of their help putting together our events this summer. Our events will only get bigger from here, and we hope to bring more curated selections to always help everyone connect.
