We had the good fortune of connecting with Candice McFashion and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candice, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Most of us can agree that balance is important but it is not easy. We know how we want our lives to look but we may not know how to get there. Work life balance is important because it effects our life and the people in it. Ultimately, the balance of work life is based on our choices. And because work can be a huge stressor, no matter how much you love what you do, we have to prioritize what’s most important.

I am a wife and mother of two little ones under the age of 4. (Laughs) Yes, my life is hectic! But I had to learn, if my home is not in order, neither will be work life be. It’s easy to just focus on myself and work alone when I was single with no obligations. As I began to grow my family, I gained more roles and I had to decide which roles are more of a priority.

I may have to delegate work to an assistant or stretch a personal deadline on order processing etc. Also, I try to work on my physical and mental well being. Checking email first thing in the morning might not be a good idea. I’ve learned to give myself space to think, pray, breathe, be organized and let go of control.

Life happens and things change, so maintaining a healthy work life balance will not only bring better productivity, but also, creativity, happiness and a less stressful workflow.

A balanced work life is important for not only the success of my business, but for my personal life as well!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Shout out to the Los Angeles Beauty Supply Stores in the 90’s. It was a beauty supply store where I found the original rollerball strawberry lip gloss and fell in love. I remember taking my friends to buy lip gloss and even purchasing more for them. I knew if I loved lip gloss as much as I did, then they would love fall in love with it too!

In 2019, I decided to turn my passion into a business. Stepping out on faith is what I know to do. Lots of time was spent on researching natural oils, vitamins and healthy ingredients for the optimal lip care. I learned how to produce lip gloss, scrubs and lip oils. It took lots of trial and error to find the perfect formula for my brand and it was worth it. Definitely not easy at all; but I never gave up! I had the vision of the company and it had to be executed. I also read lots of books on the beauty industry and participated in entrepreneur workshops to learn on how to build and an online business. Prayer and works and still prayer and works.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a best friend out of town coming to visit Los Angeles in the summer, she would never want to go back home! We would get into all sorts of things. One place you have to visit in L.A. is the beach! I would take her to Santa Monica beach. At Santa Monica beach, we get to have chill time on the sand with a blanket, basket full of goodies, mixed cocktail and a small portable speaker for music- can’t go wrong. We’d also walk on the boardwalk and check out local talent, shop a little at the promenade and grab a bite to eat at a cool seafood restaurant. We would wine down on a night where the day was busy at the dine-in movie theater in Marina del Rey. The dine-in has plush recliner seats, waitresses and a full bar.

Hollywood is a must for tourists. So we would have to hit up Hollywood Blvd. during the day. Perhaps catch one of those lame tourist city guides to check out celebrity homes and visit my favorite Hollywood Mexican restaurant, Te’Kila, for some fire nachos. Yum

Marina Del Rey for Brunch. Nothing like brunch over looking the water. Beachside Restaurant in the Jamaica Bay Inn has a wonderful Brunch experience with welcoming mimosas, tasty shareable plates, and delicious full entrees. Hang out at the Suede Bar Lounge in downtown Los Angeles for nice music and chill environment.

Take a day to drive out to the Citadel Outlets, 15-20 miles out, and enjoy some outdoor shopping. One of the days, we’d have to visit a theme park like Six Flags, Knotts or Universal Studios for some fun rides and attractions.

Invite some friends to have a bonfire at Dockweiler beach that night and make smores, play games and enjoy company with good people. We’d definitely have to hit up a spa before she leaves, perhaps Glen Ivy and spend the day pampering ourselves.

Okay, when is she coming? I’m ready! (laughs)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out my family! My tribe has played a key role in my success personally and professionally.

My mother has always been supportive of my dreams and talents. She challenges me to push beyond limits, and is always hands on ready to not only cheer on the sidelines but will jump in the game if needed.

My Dad is a rockstar. He has the best advice and is a great listener. Now that is great combo, right?!
He advertises my cosmetic line by word of mouth whenever possible, and answers his phone whenever I call!

My sister will always keep it real with me. She’s my personal “focus group”. I share my new ideas, lip shades and new products with her. She gives me honest feedback and always support and promote the business. I appreciate her very much.

Last but not least, my husband. I would just like to shout out my loving dear husband. He is my counselor and my rock. Some work days can just be hard and overwhelming, but my husband will step right in and help me jump back on my feet. He holds down our two children on days the business is requiring more of my attention after hours. I appreciate him tremendously.

My family is important to my business in all aspects and I’m truly thankful to have them in my life and on my team!
