We had the good fortune of connecting with Carlos Chavez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carlos, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
My goal is to own my own photography studio. A place where I can create my content and help others express their creativity. I would like my work to be seen on a higher scale and published in magazines.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of my biggest struggles is overcoming self doubt. Comparing my work to others. Critiquing my work 100X more than I would another photographer’s. It took al ot of work for me to accept my passion and to accept my talent. I think my biggest strength is my passion and drive for learning new techniques in the business. My biggest challenge was creating connections with other professionals in the business, and using those connections to grow as a photographer. I have never taken any formal photography classes. Everything I have learned has been through research and not being scared to try new things.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love showing people a good time. I enjoy seeing people experience new things for the first time. I would take them to some secret Seattle photography locations that only local photographers frequent. Seattle is known for our amazing seafood. I would take them for some fresh seafood down on the Seattle pier. The Seattle Space Needle is always a great landmark for out-of-towners to visit but there is an an ever better scenic view at the top of the Columbia Tower where you can enjoy hand crafted drinks and a stunning 360 degree view of the breathtaking city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m a huge believer in supporting other entrepreneurs and artists. Someone who has always pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone and take risks is Jon Meggison. For years, we have encouraged and supported each others careers and dreams. Someone else in my life who tirelessly supports my goals and aspirations is my wife, Caitlyn. Without her love and support I would not work as hard as I do to reach for my goals, no matter how farfetched,
