Meet Cassidy Murphy: Co-Founder of Good Boy Records & Artist Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassidy Murphy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cassidy, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Besides the obvious working hard and believing in my abilities, the most important factor behind my success is the support of my friends. Though Good Boy functions as a record label, it feels so much bigger than that. We have so many talented friends surrounding us and helping out with all the intricate details of what goes into an artist project. The collective couldn’t function without every hand on deck. I think the group of us recognizes that our own success equates to everyone’s success and with that we are all so willing to work hard for one another.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a 24 year old artist manager and founding member of Good Boy Records. I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Industry from the University of New Haven and a Master’s Degree from NYU in Music Business. After graduation, I moved to LA and started a record label with the help of my closest friends. Good Boy Records currently has one artist – mazie – on its roster. Day to day I handle all things mazie, and I also currently manage MyKey, Joe Kelleher, and Gabe Rhys.
Working in the music industry is something that I’ve known I wanted to do for as long as I can remember. Every major decision I’ve made bore this goal in mind, including getting two degrees in music business as well as working 7 internships (way too many unpaid internships). With all of this experience prior to my entry in to the business, I’ve seen how the industry functions first hand and it’s not something I can whole heartedly support. I see how little morals and ethics are valued and I want to make it my personal goal to try and set a new, artist-friendly standard moving forward.
I feel as though I have a good understanding of the intrinsic value of music in a way that some of my professional peers may not; because I primarily surround myself with creatives I have a deeper understanding of the process it takes to create music, ultimately making me recognize its value that much more. I want the word to treat art in relation to how they consume it — if you rely on music to get you through the day then you should have respect for the artists, their creative process, and their compensation for their work.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I moved here during the pandemic, so I feel like I haven’t gotten to experience LA for what it is yet. My favorite place that I’ve been to so far is Pure Vita in West Hollywood! Truly the best vegan Italian food I’ve ever had.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Good Boy couldn’t function without the help of Eight Six Productions. Axel Kabundji, Kon Mekhontsev, and Jade Sadler have been vital to the success of Good Boy and have helped with every music video and shoot thus far!
