Meet Chance Tanner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chance Tanner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chance, what is the most important factor behind your success?
We don’t believe in “industry smoke and mirrors.” I push my team to be direct with our artists because masking the hard work of daily operations only slows us down. The industry is constantly shifting; a strong label stays ahead by staying adaptable and ensuring that every win—and every pivot—is shared transparently with the team.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m the Founder of View Park Records and Co-Owner of PHT Property Group. At View Park, we’re a Los Angeles-based label dedicated to identifying and developing artists and songwriters at every stage of their journey. At PHT, we do more than just renovate houses; we build homes people are proud to live in and work to rebuild entire communities.
Being a part of two companies that are worlds apart—entertainment and construction—is exactly what sets me apart from your standard label owner. Waking up early to muscle materials to a job site feels no different to me than waking up early to produce a music video or map out a PR plan for a new release. It keeps me incredibly humble. I’m not an executive directing art from behind a desk; I still work with my hands and talk to people from all walks of life. That direct line to the heart of the country gives me a different level of understanding regarding what the streets are actually listening to and what sounds they’re hungry for next.
Looking ahead in 2026, I’m excited to bring more visual production to View Park Records. Our B2B partnerships are expanding, and we’re gearing up to produce a massive amount of content. We’re also preparing a touring concert movie event that will host in-person collaborative mixers for artists and production teams. The entertainment industry is in a state of flux, and we are leaning into that by offering local independent artists deeper, more immersive fan experiences.
I’ve built my career by simply being myself—approaching everything with a spirit of adventure and seeing obstacles as challenges rather than deterrents. My journey started in commercial diving, then transitioned into specialized hyperbaric medicine at UCLA Westwood. During that time, I rediscovered my love for literature, devouring everything from medical studies to Stephen King’s Dark Tower series. Reading led me back to writing, and writing sparked my creative edge. I started taking on PA gigs just to get on every set possible and learn the industry from the ground up.
After working on music videos and commercials, I found my way into the world of Post-Production and VFX. That path led me to work on some of the biggest blockbusters of the last few decades, including Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Jumanji: The Next Level, and Transformers: The Last Knight.
Then came Covid, and with all that time I took the opportunity to go back to my roots of reading, writing, and discovering music.
Hip-hop raised me, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve fallen in love with the timelessness of R&B. There’s just something special about it. After a meeting with a close friend and fueled by a passion for the Indy scene in LA, View Park Records was born Switching gears from film to music business was / is not easy. I would say the quickly changing technology has made it fun, and I will add “Nothing worth having is easy. The music industry is mostly about R&D; a hit song is not easy to come by. The rise of self-distribution and at-home studios have made it more cost effective to make music but the art in making a beautiful song, a timeless masterpiece takes time, not every song can be lighting in a bottle. Developing a song takes time, building a release strategy to market takes time and with that the biggest challenge to overcome is patience. The View Park Records brand is an organic grass roots label that is very much in the indie artist’s corner. View Park Records does not believe in gate keeping, if there is some data we know we will share, if there is some information that we do not know we figure it out and share it. We are a very collaborative and supportive company that believes in communication and transparency.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love LA. When friends visit, and complain about the traffic, I say it comes with the territory, so you learn to navigate each area of the city with a sense of calm. LA is a city on the go, but when you can slow down and enjoy a part of the city or do some urban hiking – LA is great.
My top area to hit on a weekend are a cruise down Crenshaw and enjoy the car show. Leimert Park (Degnan Blvd) never disappoints, where you can grab a fresh juice or coffee, walk around and visit the merchant booths, grab some food and enjoy the music.
For the night life I enjoy DTLA, walking around enjoying the lights of the city, moving form bar to bar, there is always a new restaurant to discover or an old staple to visit.
Honorary favorites are Little Tokyo and Venice Beach. The weather will determine my choice, but these two areas are great day time hangs for good food and scenery.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my Shoutout to the individuals who have contributed to my career, first my wife and business partner, Gina, she the anchor that keeps me grounded. My business partner Chloe, who keeps the goal in focus on our shared vision. Noel, my confidant who has unmeasured patience when I rant and the wisdom he offers.
I owe a debt of gratitude to my parents, who taught me how to navigate life’s hurdles with a foundation of hard work, honesty, and the pursuit of financial freedom. Finally, a special Shoutout to my mentor, Curtis A. Gadson. Curtis was a titan of the entertainment industry and a driving force behind BET’s most iconic era. Learning the mechanics of how a successful network is managed through him gave me the respect and the roadmap I needed to achieve greatness in this business.
