Meet Christine Hettinger | hettys tattoos / Tattooartist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christine Hettinger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christine, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My main motivation for starting my own business, or my own tattoostudio was to create a tattoo studio that is run in a clean, professional, and organized way. I wanted a space where clients feel truly comfortable—almost like at home—and, most importantly, respected.
For me, tattooing is not just about the artwork, but also about the experience. I believe people should feel safe, understood, and valued from the moment they walk in. Creating that kind of environment was something I felt was missing, and it became a big reason why I decided to build my own studio.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I specialize in Chicano and black and grey realism—that’s the style I feel most connected to. Lately, I’ve been working on a lot of large-scale custom Chicano pieces, and I’m really grateful for that. It’s what I enjoy the most and where I can fully focus on my craft.
What sets me apart is that I’m not limited to one thing. Even though my main focus is black and grey, I also do cover-ups and color work. I see myself as an all-round artist, and I’m always trying to improve and push my work to the next level.
My journey wasn’t easy. It took a lot of time, discipline, and consistency to get where I am today. There were challenges along the way, but I stayed focused and kept working, no matter what.
One of the most important things I’ve learned is to stay true to yourself, stay patient, and never stop learning.
What I want people to know about me and my brand is that I take my work seriously. I care about quality, professionalism, and making sure every client feels comfortable and respected.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting, I’d definitely show them around Frankfurt and Hanau. We’d start with the Main Tower in Frankfurt for an amazing view over the city, and then spend some time by the river—especially in the evening. The skyline at night is something special.
For food, I’d take them to some of my favorite spots. In Hanau, I’d go to Sendo Sushi—they don’t just have great sushi, their ramen is amazing too. Honestly, every dish I’ve tried there has been really good.
Another must is Alegria—they have amazing pasta and one of my favorite dishes, the chicken salad with yogurt sauce. It actually became my go-to lunch break meal.
For something fun, we’d go to a fun park in Rodgau where you can do neon bowling and a lot of other activities, plus enjoy drinks and snacks. It’s a great place to just relax and have a good time.
Aside from that, we have a lot of great restaurants and chill places to hang out, so it would be a mix of good food, relaxed vibes, and enjoying the city—especially at night.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would definitely give a shoutout to my girlfriend, my friends, and my family for always supporting me and believing in what I do. Their encouragement means everything to me.
Also, a huge thank you to all my clients who trust me with their ideas and support my work—it wouldn’t be possible without them.
And of course, my team. I truly have the best team around me, and I’m really grateful to work with such amazing people every day.
