We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlie White and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charlie, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
I like to set intentions every morning! I find it helps direct my thinking and set the trajectory of my day. They usually center around whatever I’m currently dealing with and things I want to work on.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My main career is in video games and I currently work as a User Experience Designer on World of Warcraft with Blizzard Entertainment. It has been an exciting journey with the game development team as we move towards the next epic expansion, Dragonflight! I really admire the passion and talent of the incredible people building out these epic worlds. Additionally, I compete internationally playing beach handball with Team USA and competitive club teams. It’s been one of the highlights of my athletic career to represent the USA on the world stage.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A visit to California isn’t complete without a trip to the beach. I like Hermosa Beach where the USA Beach Handball team trains as well as many of the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball players. I also like Newport Beach closer to home and Zumu Beach in Malibu. For 7 years I lived in Santa Monica in Ocean Park and loved it there… So many great options!

Exercise is always part of any visit and my building has one of, if not the biggest, apartment gyms in the United States so I would also take them there for a workout.

Once restrictions open up I think the Blizzard campus would be fun to visit to see some of the awesome props from BlizzCon and epic art from crafted legendary weapons to giant statues from the games. To list off a few other spots maybe Balboa Island, Venice Beach, Santa Monica Pier, Disneyland, Griffith Observatory, Rodeo Drive, Sunset Strip and Hollywood. I don’t like the crowds at tourist spots but I’ll show friends around if they want.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am lucky and grateful to have had many people that have helped along this journey. I would like to thank my wife Maria, my teammates that have supported me, the many doctors and physical therapists that have kept me competing on a high level, the USA Team Handball organization for building this sport in the United States, and for Blizzard Entertainment and the UX/UI team on Warcraft.
