We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Seguin and Denshai Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsea Seguin and Denshai Lee, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Building a brand that encourages people to practice self care requires us as business owners to demonstrate work life balance. However our spin on work life balance is LIFE then WORK in balance.

Our approach to balance changed over time.

Chelsea for example used to create a to do list and once but burned out because she never made it to the part of having time for herself to enjoy life’s simple pleasures. These days things that bring enjoyment are added to her daily to do list. Chelsea finds LIFE WORK balance by adding self care practices to her agenda for the day and lives a more balanced and fulfilled life. An example of her daily schedule includes : morning skin care routine, work 9-5 corporate job, outdoor lunch break, working remaining shift, short evening break listening to podcast or audio book, work on sourcing new product and writing for blogs and various projects for B.A.G. box, evening dinner and night time skin care routine.

Denshai for example used to work intensely throughout the day and night. She would find her self burned out from working long hours. These days she starts her mornings with workouts to boost energy, meals prepped to make healthy choices, and meditation to center her thoughts. She now has a work hard and pause approach that brings more balance into her schedule. She will have back to back meetings then take a 10-15 minute break to go for a walk, listen to a meditation or just celebrate the completion of a task. She ends her days by reflecting on accomplishments and choosing an activity to celebrate with a glass of wine, a long bath, or a long stretch.

Work life balance isn’t an either or it is about both. You will the most beneficial balance when LIFE is the priority and work is needed to sustain your lifestyle. If you’re not enjoying your life or you feel out of balance self care is the road to get there.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
B.A.G. Box is a self care and empowerment subscription box. What set’s us apart is we dive deeper into self care than the traditional personal and beauty care that is marketed. We offer a dual approach that includes rituals for your outward and inward personal growth. We are most proud of offering practical tools that are affordable and impactful. We started the brand from our own burnout within our corporate careers which lead to personal desires to practice self care more frequently to prevent burnout. We experienced a ton of challenges including trying to fill boxes with useful tools that are also cost effective as well as shipping delays due to global supply chain issues and cost increases. Lessons we have learned along the way are to be flexible and allow ideas to be fluid. We want the world to know that there is more to self care than face masks and manicures and B.A.G. Box is here to help them go deeper.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
