We had the good fortune of connecting with Cimone Holloway and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cimone, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My motivation behind the career path I chose was my longing to simply help people. For as long as I could remember, I wanted to become a defense attorney. I spent a great deal of time around other lawyers and enjoyed their passion in helping others not only get out of sticky situations but to also make wise decisions concerning their future.
One summer, I spent the entire 3 months shadowing one of my favorite defense attorneys. He literally introduced me as his legal clerk and I was allowed to sit directly before the judge and next to our client. As his legal clerk, I was responsible for work behind the scenes: contacting witnesses, gathering character evidence, sending emails, looking over paperwork, and much more. I always knew I wanted to help people, and I assumed early on that, that had meant going to law school and becoming a defense attorney. After many obstacles on my journey preventing me from attending, I decided that I could take the skills I gained from working with my favorite attorney coupled with the skills I took from my masters program and start a business that simply helps people.
What should our readers know about your business?
Because I started my business so young and as I watch other people my age in 2021 start businesses, I understand the challenges that come with getting started. This is really the driving force behind why I started my business. There are struggles that come with entrepreneurship that people do not discuss, giving the false narrative that it is smooth sailing and it isn’t. I didn’t ask questions when starting my business, and while my mom is an entrepreneur herself, she is in a completely different field; she could only guide me on the generalities of self-employment. I want to be the person people come to when feeling stuck and not knowing where to start when looking into starting a business. Along the way, I want to be the person that people come to when they have a general but important business concern. I offer a wide range of services, from business questions to contract writing and even to contract understanding. Beverly Virginia Consulting Services LLC is the one-stop shop for all things business related, both general and legally concerned.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My bestie and I would be at Hot N Juicy every day of the week! LOL. I enjoy day parties when I’m not home relaxing. We’d probably visit Washed and Restless, a black-owned day function that pops up throughout the year. We would also visit one of my favorite spots called the District with music, food, and dancing.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother has always been a guiding force in my life. She, too, is an entrepreneur, an amazing one at that, Her passion for her career is so motivating; she puts a great deal of effort into her business even when it is experiencing its lows; she never gives up. My mom teaches me the importance of perseverance without even lecturing me and because of her, I am always prepared for the highs and lows of self-employment.
This year, I also had the most random yet most appreciated pleasure in meeting and being taken under the wing of Dr. Rosie Milligan. Dr. Rosie is a well known Senior Estate Planner right in South Central, Los Angeles. My mom, being my #1 fan, happened to be ranting to Dr. Rosie about my work ethic and the passion for what I do, and she wanted to meet me! I take pride in learning a skill that really helps people the way this one does, more than what I could offer when first starting my business. Dr. Rosie as my mentor and someone I admire so much teaches me the importance of reaching out a hand to pull others up when trying to find a way to success. Because of her, I can now add Estate Planning to my resume and be the helping hand she was to me, to someone else as soon as I make it.
