We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy Chavez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cindy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve spent years working for others, building my skills, gaining experience, and pouring into businesses that weren’t my own. Deep down, I always knew I had more to give and something of my own to build. I’ve always been a bit of a risk taker, and there came a point where I realized this was my moment to go all in and truly bet on myself.

Starting The Skin Edit by Cindy wasn’t just about opening a business, it was about stepping fully into who I am and what I’m capable of. I’m fueled by passion and a genuine love for what I do. Helping people feel confident in their skin, creating a space where they feel seen and cared for… that’s what drives me every single day.

I knew if I didn’t take that leap, I’d always wonder what could have been. So I chose to trust myself, put in the work, and build something that reflects my heart, my standards, and my vision. It doesn’t stop here…

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve been a licensed esthetician for over 20 years, and I can honestly say that helping others is not just what I do….it’s who I am. My passion and heart fuel everything behind The Skin Edit by Cindy. Of course, making a living matters, but what truly drives me is knowing I’m making a difference in how someone feels about themselves.

There’s something incredibly powerful about the trust my clients place in me. The conversations, the vulnerability, sometimes even the tears—and then seeing them leave with a smile, a sense of confidence, or relief—that’s the part that never gets old. I’ve created a space that feels like a sanctuary, where people feel included, safe, and genuinely cared for. That’s what sets me apart. It’s not just about the treatment—it’s about the experience and the connection.

What I’m most proud of is that I’ve built something I’ve envisioned for years. This didn’t happen overnight, and it definitely wasn’t easy. I still work a full-time corporate job, which means my days start early—3 a.m. Monday through Friday. I’m at the office by 5 a.m., and then I transition to my boutique in the evenings, seeing clients until 8 p.m. It’s a long day, but the moment I step into my space, I feel re-energized. I show up fully for my clients, and they feel that.

Along the way, I’ve learned that you have to be clear on your “why.” Without that, everything can feel surface-level and unsustainable. My “why” keeps me grounded and pushes me forward on the hard days. I’ve also had to work through moments of imposter syndrome, but I remind myself that I’ve put in the time, the education, and the experience. I know what I’m doing, and I’ve learned to stand confidently in that and own it.

What I want people to know about me and my brand is that this is real. This is built on years of dedication, resilience, and love for what I do. The Skin Edit by Cindy isn’t just a business—it’s a reflection of my journey, my heart, and my commitment to helping people feel their best from the inside out.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Without a doubt, I’d start with the outdoors. We’re so blessed with the weather here in LA, so I’d take them hiking, somewhere with a beautiful view where you can really take in the city and just reset for a moment. There’s something about being up there, moving your body, and seeing LA from that perspective that just hits different.

From there, we’re definitely going to eat. I’d take them to a great Mexican restaurant, definitely somewhere with live music, good energy, and amazing food. That full experience… the music, the culture, the flavors—that’s a must!

Throughout the week, I’d mix in a little bit of everything, maybe a beach day to enjoy the coast, some local shopping, and just exploring different pockets of the city. LA and SoCal has so many layers, and I’d want them to feel that.

But honestly, for me, it’s less about packing in a perfect itinerary and more about the feeling… good conversations, good food, movement, music, and being present. That’s what makes it the best time!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without a doubt, my family deserves so much of the credit for where I am today.

My mother, who is no longer with us, is still my guiding light. Her strength, her love, and the way she carried herself continue to live through me in everything I do. I feel her influence in my decisions, in my work ethic, and in the way I show up for others.

My father, who now suffers from dementia, is another huge part of my story. He worked incredibly hard to provide for our family, and that work ethic was something we all witnessed and learned from. Both of my parents were immigrants, and the sacrifices they made laid the foundation for everything we have today.

My family as a whole has always been supportive, but my sister holds a very special place in my journey. She stepped into my mom’s role in so many ways and has been my anchor through life. Her strength, support, and love have carried me through some of my hardest moments. I truly wouldn’t be where I am without her.

Everything I’m building is, in many ways, a reflection of them.
