Meet Cler Verzo | Dancer & Gamer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cler Verzo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cler, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Taking risks is always a big challenge for me—but I know I have to face it. It’s part of growth.
I moved to LA from the Philippines eight years ago. I remember how everything was new to me, from the place to the people. My world just got bigger and more overwhelming, but I knew I had to be brave if I wanted to fulfill my dream of becoming a dancer.
To become a dancer, I had to do a lot of training, which came at a cost. I had to divide my time among my family, partner, studies, friends, and myself. I also had to work harder so I can save money and earn a little extra for my wants and needs.
On top of the daily grind, I also had struggles inside me. One of which was the fear of putting myself out there and meeting new people. Sometimes, I would feel depressed and lose my motivation. When this happens, I rest. But I make it a point to still dance little by little. I would keep making and posting dance videos, if only for myself.
Slowly, I started facing my fears. That’s when I was able to attend dance classes. Then, I started to get recognized by other dancers, choreographers, and even some of the artists I admire. I was also able to dance and appear on YouTube with famous dancers. I’ve danced at small Hollywood events. I’ve been in a music video. I’ve also had the privilege of dancing at Coachella.
Now, I can proudly say, if I didn’t face my fears and take risks, I won’t be able to do all this.
A couple of years ago, I started to try my hand at streaming live video games. I’ve always loved playing video games as a child. But I knew that if I wanted to turn this into a career, I needed to invest not just in equipment, but also time and commitment. I knew I had to take another risk and another expense, without knowing where this could go. Plus, I’m an introvert, which means I also had to overcome that sense of panic I feel about having to talk to my viewers. Some days, it’s good. Some days, I still feel a tiny bit apprehensive about where things are going. But despite everything, I do my best to create and post entertaining gaming content every day, hoping maybe one day I’ll reach my target audience and find success in this field.
I know I may not have as many viewers and supporters as my cohorts. But I’ll keep doing what I’m doing, no matter what. I don’t know what the future holds for me, but I plan to face life’s challenges head on, while having fun and entertaining everyone—myself included.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I can’t say I’m a professional yet, to be honest. But I know I give my best in everything I do. My videos show the real me—my unique skills, styles, and personality. When dancing, my goal is not to compete. The important thing is how I express my feelings through dance. In gaming, despite inevitable losses, I still try to fight, as I know that will help me be a stronger player. Sometimes, I would encounter toxic players and even viewers, but I turn them into an inspiration, a driving force to help myself perform better. They may not believe in my skills, but I believe in myself. I know I can do it.
I can say my attention to detail and determination set me apart. I carefully plan my content. I think about how to improve the editing and music, to make my videos more appealing and entertaining. I hope that in doing so, I can inspire other people looking to take the streaming or content creation route.
I’m proud of myself because I’m slowly achieving my dreams while entertaining people. It’s hard, like I said, because except for my wife and family, I don’t often feel the support of other people. My insecurities would sometimes creep in and feel like people don’t like me. Making my passion available to the public eye means exposing myself to public opinion and scrutiny. Sometimes, other people could make me feel like they’re not happy for me and they want to pull me down. Plus, it can also be hard to make time for my passion when I’m always tired from work. And of course, I should also make time for my family. Then there are also the constraints that come with not being able to afford the best devices for gaming. But despite all of the challenges, I do my best to keep going because I like what I’m doing and I know it’s one of the things that can make me happy.
I learned that how people perceive me does not at all reflect my values and capabilities. Though I find myself needing support and motivation from others, I know I should really be doing this not for them, but for myself. I shouldn’t pay attention to the haters and that shouldn’t be a reason for me to give up.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you’re after breathtaking views of the stars and LA skyline, Griffith Observatory is one of the best. It gives you an unobstructed view of the whole city, and it is very beautiful, especially at night. In Santa Monica, not only is it nice to hang out on the beach, but you can also try the Pier where you can enjoy lots of games, rides, fishing, and food. Speaking of rides, Universal Hollywood is also good. There, you can see your favorite Universal movies and characters and you can buy their merch. You also get a peek into how they make movies and much more. I can say Hollywood is also a good place to visit because of the many tourist spots as well as good places to eat. And if you want to see celebrities and their cool houses around LA, you can take a tour with Hollywood Tours. And just to share, Hollywood is where I started my dancing dreams when I arrived in LA.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my wife and my family for supporting me through everything I wanted to achieve. My family has always been willing to help in any way. My wife, on the other hand, pushes me to do the things that would make me happy. When sometimes I get tired, she reminds me to rest. When I feel like what I’m doing is going nowhere, she tells me she’s always there for me no matter what and that everything will be okay in time.
