We had the good fortune of connecting with Colleen Holiday and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Colleen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The Colleen Holiday/ Holiday Studio’s Brand was born out of my passion for making women stronger. As the last child of three daughters, I witnessed all the hurdles women jump through. I learned the most difficult things to do is to change your life, especially mid-stream. It takes discipline, consistency, a sobering understanding of your weaknesses and the realization of some gnawing unhappiness inside–whether it be in body or in mind.
The weight room has always provided a place for me personally to work out problems and stress, set new goals and realize them so that I rebuild myself every time that I’ve had to reinvent myself. It’s the only place I can go to feel stronger instantly. In my 28 years of training, I watched women jump the hurdles of life–divorce, depression, loss, toxic relationships and balancing family work and children–as well as self-esteem. Finding time for much needed self-care becomes difficult. But most importantly, I wanted to teach women that after 30 your life is just getting started.
with this, I found my passion for training the over-30 female client. Weight training has been my “go to,” and, while there are no guarantees in life, there are massive personal gains with hard work and discipline in the weight room. Creating a safe place for change and challenging self-discovery became my goal.
If there is one thing I know for sure, strength training has prepared me for those harder things, balanced me during times of stress and strengthened me when I felt weak. While there are tons of fads, fitness trends and new diets, one steadfast rule that has carried me through these hard times is that, when life gets hard, train for it. Holiday Studios is a place of transformation. A place where there is no longer the shelf life of 28. We offer more than “just the weights”. Total transformations are our business. With complete fitness training, total nutrition and detox programs, and the best aesthetic talent-we give the most comprehensive transformative package available.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Colleen Holiday/Holiday Studios is a personal training and total transformation company. While we started in personal training, we grew to meet the needs of the over-30 female client. (And yes, we train men too) Our mission is to make individuals into their most awesome selves. What makes us different is the myriad of avenues we take to get you there. Beyond the fitness and nutrition part, we encompass the most amazing beauty and wardrobe talent. I seek out the best for every client if they choose to go extra mile. Happiness is an inside job and being your true self will get you there. Our motto is to turn up the volume for each client. We believe in being 100 proof.
Explaining what I do is sometimes difficult. Many times, clients don’t see the totality of themselves. My team and I bring that out. Limiting beliefs are the most difficult part of my job. Trying to get the client to see the amazing changes sometimes takes months. Some just won’t believe. I have learned that most failure is due to self-sabotage-not lack of work or skill. Believe in yourself. Find your purpose. Pass on perfection. Those are my lessons along the way.
While we have a brick and mortar in Cleveland Ohio, I travel. We do virtual. We also have hybrid programs where I come out and train, detox…set the stage and build your new mindset. I then come back out as we hit goals. It is all very individual. I have clients all over the world. The Colleen Holiday brand is all about doing whatever it takes to make you awesome…and teaching it’s never too late to be your best self.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, I would take them to Holiday Studios (In CLE) or when in LA a nearby gym. I must say I love Gold’s gym. In LA it is an absolute experience. I also like “The Gym LA”. Visiting gyms is one of my favorite things to do. We would work out and set up a complete fitness and nutrition program for the week. Nearby markets would supply our vegan whole food menus. Part of my training involves letting clients get actually hungry. A lost art in America-it makes whole food taste amazing. Nightly mediation and relaxation are a must.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom, first and foremost. She gave me the passion to help women become their best. She taught me to believe in the underdog and she learned all the lessons for me. From her, which I learned late in life, I garnered all my strength.
My female clients that span now over 30 years. regardless of who they are, actors, actresses, businesswomen and stay at home moms. each and every one taught me something new about training and about life. The common denominator is to become the best you -you can be, not perfection…just the best of who you are inside.
Leyon Azubuike. He is the most amazing human and trainer. He has that smile and the warm glow of the biggest heart. He gave me the kindest message when I was having the most difficult time. He is what I aspire to become. He grew from the ashes like a phoenix.
