We had the good fortune of connecting with Cooper Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cooper, why did you pursue a creative career?
I wanted to pursue a creative career simply because even from a young age I’ve always enjoyed making things, whether that be physical art writing, it’s always been something that has come easy to me. Naturally when I began to play guitar I wanted to create something too, my goal was never to become the best guitarist or singer but was simply to write stuff that hadn’t been done before; there’s always something magical about creating something that didn’t exist before, almost like it appeared out of thin air. I never wrote songs for anyone but myself, for my own enjoyment, but it’s amazing how the songs I’ve created have the ability to impact others around me so much as well.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets us apart from a lot of other bands today is our unique sound. unlike a lot of other bands we take a lot of inspiration from past bands, more specifically a lot of bands in the 90s, most notably alternative bands like Nirvana, Alice in Chains and the Smashing Pumpkins. We really enjoy the simplicity at the core of these artist’s songs, something that they are able to convey while still being engaging and unique. We’re most proud of the songs we’ve created so far for our upcoming EP release; after some trial and error I think we’ve found a perfect balance, borrowing elements from our 90s rock influences while also creating something fresh that’s never been done before. Throughout our songwriting journey I’ve learned that quality is way more important than quantity, any band can write dozens of halfway decent songs but writing anything that you’re truly proud of takes time, writing rewriting, second guessing yourself, and working hard to get everything the way you want it. I want the world to know that the songs we’ve created didn’t come out of thin air; it took a lot of work and dedication to make them a reality.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d say definitely go check out the awesome venues in the area, in Long Beach we have some awesome venues like Alex’s bar, Alter Society and Dipiazzas, and check out some great local bands that’ll be sure to blow you away

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Simply put it, being a band is definitely a collaborative effort, collaborative internally through members of the band but also through the other bands that help us along the way. We’d like to give a shout out to all the other local bands that have helped us out over the past two and a half years, bands like the Anti Groupies, Familiar Faces, Speed of Light and so many others that have invited us to shows, played at our most important shows, and have simply shown support along the way.
