Meet Crowne Mecca | Vocal Artist, Songwriter and Icon

We had the good fortune of connecting with Crowne Mecca and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Crowne, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Hi there,
My name is Crowne Mecca! I’m a goddess in rare form and God truly placed a melodic indent on my heart: My creative drug of choice is music. I like to say that it chose me! The very first time that I heard the fierce tone of passion from Tina Turner and the gentle, yet strong vocal masterpiece from Michael Jackson, I knew that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Music gives me that high off of life feeling and it just has been with me since I can remember. I have been singing since the age of 7 and it was then that I discovered that I truly loved performing. I would sing in church, at the park with my sister, Koko and my cousins and I just think I saw how much joy it brought to peoples hearts to hear good music and see a great performance and I wanted to embody that and live sharing my passion for music with the world.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is music, it is the rhythmic and heartfelt sound of soul, smooth jazz, rnb, reggae and a hint of pop. I have a flow and cruise type of sound that will make you want to just play track after track and I think that is what sets me apart! I’m an LA native and I like to think that we just have and are a whole vibe, us LA artists, I Mean.
To date, I am most proud of my single, “Soul Food,” which launched at the beginning of this year and is available now on all Platforms. I’m most excited about embarking on my first solo project and though I’ve encountered many trials, there have been many wins and accomplishments along the way. I started back performing and that has been an amazing experience and the turnout and support has just been something, I guess I didn’t expect. I often and overwhelmed with gratitude and appreciation for the amount of support that I have received.
I started out in a duo group “Pharaoh” with my older sister, Koko and I mean, we are an amazing team artistically and we literally have a blast together. I think transitioning over to the solo side of things definitely challenged me to really fight for my dream and go after everything that I want to do as a creative.
When I think about it, the good that my music is going to do and the lives that I can touch with it, I am grateful to have the opportunity to pursue my passion. It makes all the trials worth it and the mountains and hurtles worth climbing. I have a heart for this and I want to help to heal peoples hearts and souls with my music.
I want the world to know that even though your journey may look different, that is the magic of what makes your story uniquely yours. The trials just make for a more captivating tale and they make you stronger and often when time has passed, you can laugh about them. It is the beauty of Growth. Live in the passion of your purpose and be your own art.
That’s honestly what my Name, Crowne Mecca, stands for it is to be the life source, the light, and the center of all art!
I believe in being uniquely you, living in the art of your authentic self and letting God take care of the rest.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hypothetically speaking, If my best friend was not a Cali native and in town for a week. I would definitely take her out and give her something to write home about. First things first, we would have to take a visit to Liemert Park, which some would say is my very own back yard. I’ve lived in the area since I was a child and well it’s always been home. I would take her to the African market and we’d make a stop for some Jamaican Food at Aki Bamboo. Then, we’d head on over to Westchester to see the beautiful rays of the sun setting on the ocean’s waves at Dockweiler Beach. Then land at Station 1640 for drinks and Monday open Mic night Karaoke. Throughout the week we’d have to hit Simply Wholesome, Melrose, Venice Beach, Santa Monica Beach, Berry’s Pizza, Bossa Nova Brazilian Cuisine, Sweet Chick, Beauty & Essex, TAO, and Milk Jar Cookies Cafe. I’d also have to take her to Downtown la for some shopping, Skinny’s in WeHo for A little more fun, and of Course downtown Long Beach. I graduated from Cal State Long Beach University and so Long Beach will always have a special place in my heart! I can’t leave out Diego, because we’d definitely have to hit up the gas lamp district For some bar hopping. Church on Sunday Morning, cause we both love the Lord and Brunch at Catch LA. Literally, it would be a vibe and we’d catch any music festival or concert going down at the Forum, in Inglewood.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I first and foremost have to Thank God, for every opportunity that I have been blessed to grasp. I truly would be nothing without God and he has shown me just how faithful he is when I choose to trust in the direction that he is steering my life. My faith has definitely grown stronger through choosing to take on the journey of a creative. I also, have to thank my parents and grandparents for their unwavering support and love, they are my hearts. My siblings, Koko Kennedy, who is also a vocal artist, we started our journeys together with our group “Pharaoh,” TT-my diary in human form, and Dee Dee- my Baby, Wo0z and Tank, my rocks.
