We had the good fortune of connecting with DaeSun Cupid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DaeSun, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks for me feels essential in all aspects of life. I am the type of person that doesn’t thrive in safety. I find the most success in my career and personal life by taking risks intentionally to pull out the side of myself that fights to make it through because I have no other option.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It took some time of course to accomplish what I have so far and it started with my move from Augusta to Atlanta. I knew that I wanted to pursue work in the commercial industry of dance and Atlanta was the closest place I could do that. Some challenges of course were finding a roommate, a place to live, networking with people with common interests, etc. God worked it all though, and everything fell into place better than I could have ever imagined. I think the most important lesson I learned in my journey is to get joy out of the struggles from being uncomfortable because thats where the growth happens and you won’t see results otherwise.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shoutout to Sharon Skepple Mayfield, my early mentor who helped to cultivate my artistry and instill a discipline and work ethic within myself that I have carried with me ever since. I’d also like to thank my entire family for being so supportive throughout my journey in dance. I’ve only started now to realize all accommodations they had to make in order to make sure I could pursue my goals. Thank you all!
