We had the good fortune of connecting with Danel Azimova and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danel, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Because it gives me a freedom of expression. Through art of different forms (modeling, acting, photography, even business) I get to show the world through my eyes and invite people in. Moreover, it never gets boring. There is no routine. Let’s talk about modeling, for example. As a model, I am being a part of someone else’s vision. Magic happens when I trust their vision and they trust mine, so modeling becomes not just about a person showing off the clothes (although, there are not-so-fun jobs like that too) and being beautiful, but rather being an addition to the whole industry, being an expression of self-love and confidence in a way. Isn’t it cool? Modeling is very psychological. Yes, obviously looks are important, but now they seem to focus more on what’s behind it and that is the best part. They look for that another tasty layer that can be added to the cake (project), which for me, as a model, means being as versatile, open-minded and free (body wise) as possible. It seems like its finally no longer about some random beauty standards of the society, it’s about finding what YOU have to offer as a person, it’s about your vision. I love when a client shares his vision with me and gives the ‘tools’ (clothes, make and hair, mood board) and then basically says ‘your turn to create.’ Same with acting. I just recently started to learn photography. I love people and I love moments. With the help of camera I am able to capture both. I like telling stories about people and life in different ways, and photography for me is basically capturing a person in a particular moment in time. People invite me in their world and basically allow me to capture it through my digital eyes. Can be a very delicate process, because not everybody is comfortable sharing their world, but that’s beautiful too!! I basically get to learn people and myself through creativity.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
There is one thing I want the world to know: let yourself be. I went through a phase where I wasn’t allowing myself to make any mistakes and every time I fell- I would get scared, demotivated and just crawl under my blanket, thinking how worthless I am. Until, I had enough. Enough of living in constant fear and anxiety. I started to read books on self-help and psychology, listen to podcast and psychological courses, meditating and LIVING. I fell in love with my mistakes. I saw them as another opportunity to grow. ‘Made a step back? Perfect! Work on it and prepare for 10 steps forward now.’. Fell-backs are life’s way of saying ‘hold on, darling. Work on this first, understand it, so you don’t repeat this in the future. Oh and your dream is right here! Whenever you done ‘learning’, just come and get it’. I must admit, I am really proud of my journey. I am proud of where I was. I am proud of where I am. I’m proud of where I am going to be. I am happy that I took full responsibility for my life. It gives you an indescribable freedom.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend comes here, every place we go to and every thing we do will be the most fun and exciting haha. In addition to showing some LA “necessities”, we will for sure go to the beach to watch sunrise and dolphins, with a coffee and croissant from a local coffee shop. Visit the dessert, the mountains, the city. I think people, who visit LA need to go for a 2-hour drive in every direction and have that cool experience of visiting all different ‘elements’, kind of at the same time (if that makes sense). I know it’s cliche, but in-n-out will be on a ‘priority list’ food wise.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to this amazing thing, called ‘life’ and all the miracles it brings in a form of loved ones and friends, who are always there to support me; work opportunities, that make my career dreams come true and people. who share their life experiences and vision through art and inspire others. Honestly, thank you!
