We had the good fortune of connecting with Daphne Gabriel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daphne, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I follow the purpose that lies within my spirit. For a long time, I’ve felt called to the arts and I noticed the effects of my mental health when I wasn’t creative. My purpose is to tell stories that will inspire people to live their best lives. The fact that this goal still inspires me everyday shows me that there’s more work to be done.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is all about showing people that they have what it takes to live their best lives and that it’s never too late to turn things around!

I also want people to know that they’re never alone in this life which was the driving force behind “Photo Booth Monologues”.

Completing the series was a challenge mainly due to my own mental health. I was anxious about whether what I was making mattered and if it would actually help someone. I’m grateful to know that it has had a positive impact!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I always talk about Leimert Park. I love supporting Black-owned businesses and want to bring as much traffic as I can to the area. I also love Bricks and Scones in Larchmont.

When I’m seeking some peace, I head to the Palisades and chill at the beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents deserve a huge shoutout for encouraging my artistic endeavors!
