Hi DHARNI, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I approach risk with a mindset that might seem delusional or crazy to some, but it has consistently played a crucial role in my life and career. Rather than shying away from risk, I embrace it because, in my experience, it has often worked to my advantage, even when it initially appeared unfavorable.
To me, risk holds an inherent excitement. It’s like venturing into the unknown, conducting experiments to discover what truly works and what doesn’t. Sticking to a monotonous, safe routine can be stifling, especially if you’re dissatisfied with your current circumstances. Risk-taking, in my view, is a means of personal growth, continuous learning, and sharing what I believe matters.
Throughout my journey, I’ve always seen risk as an opportunity. I’ve initiated multiple businesses, some of which didn’t succeed, but these setbacks served as valuable lessons. I swiftly adapted and pivoted, gaining insights that I wouldn’t have otherwise. Even with my present venture, KINDIA, entering a saturated market was a significant risk. However, I felt compelled to make my voice heard, so I took the leap, establishing a brand that resonates with many.
What should our readers know about your business?
KINDIA is a brand that draws inspiration from the vibrant colors of one’s aura and the rich botanical heritage of South Asia. Our brand is a fusion of our cultural roots, a crossroads between Kenya and India. There are several aspects that set us apart from others in the market.
First and foremost, KINDIA is a tribute to our ancestors who wisely harnessed the power of ancient Ayurvedic healing ingredients and shared them with the world. We’ve taken these time-tested ingredients and adapted them to cater to the modern consumer, offering products that embody the essence of our cultural heritage while meeting the needs of today’s lifestyle.
Additionally, our brand carries a powerful message of self-acceptance and embracing one’s true self. We believe that every individual is beautiful just as they are, and we aim to remind our community and all those who engage with our brand of this empowering concept.
Starting KINDIA was both exhilarating and intimidating. Launching a business in a field you may not be entirely familiar with is a challenge, but when your message is clear, passionate, and worth sharing, you find the courage to face your fears and take the plunge. If something is important to you, chances are it’s important to others as well.
The journey of building a business is never easy. It requires unwavering resilience and the invaluable emotional support of loved ones. I’ve had my fair share of tough days and moments when tears flowed freely, but I always find my way back to my “why.” Remembering the purpose behind KINDIA and the legacy I want to create has been my compass during challenging times.
Reflecting on my personal journey adds an extra layer of motivation. I am the first woman in my family to attend college, the first to live outside of Kenya, and the first in many other aspects. These milestones remind me of the importance of pushing boundaries and sharing my story with the world.
