We had the good fortune of connecting with Donna Hollinshead and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Donna, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by being alive and the magnificence of all life. So many things inspire me, here are a few of my favorites: LOVING CREATING COLOR SHARING SPIRIT TRAVEL NATURE babies, children, laughter, friends, painting, playing the simple beauty of nature flowers blooming, the smell of Lilacs the vibrant colors of springtime the deep green, Pisgah forest in summer, water, creeks, streams, waterfalls. the ocean Sunrise, especially at the ocean, Sunset, anywhere and especially on the top of a mountain or at the ocean the smell and sound of Autumn leaves Walking at night when it is snowing dancing music listening meditation the night sky and stargazing supporting and witnessing people expanding and recognizing how amazing they truly are GIVING AND RECEIVING WITH ALL LIFE.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is I AM LIVING, LOVING, LAUGHING and it incorporates many services and art. I am excited about all things that inspire people to awaken to their True nature. I believe what sets me apart is my ability to see through the eyes of loving and compassion. I am radically present with people. I show up and provide a container of unconditional loving, Truth and trust. I am like a big giant permission slip for freedom, joy and love. Spirit uses me to awaken others. My artwork and wearables are childlike, simple and colorful. My art is joy-full. I got where I am because I have a passion for all of the things I do, AND I LOVE sharing with people. I keep going. I enjoy the process. It wasn’t easy, but I kept it fun. My belief is that challenges are for me and not against me. That definitely helped me stay curious and try new things when something wasn’t working. I am willing to stand on my head a see things differently. My LOVE for creating and sharing kept me in the game of trying new things. I learned a few BIG lessons along the way: Stay true to my inner knowing It’s not about me The game of business is fun to play if I stay in the present moment and do what’s next. I want the world to know that the simple focus of LIVING, LOVING, and LAUGHING creates the freedom to thrive and enJOY life now!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Easy peasy, ( I actually get lots of visitors and this is what we do) We begin the day with yoga in my home studio and then our first stop is a leisurely walk from my house to downtown, Weaverville, NC for the best, leisurely, cup of coffee at ALL GOOD Coffee. From there, a half hour walk through the nature park and neighborhood to the top of Hamburg Mountain for a 360 view of the area. Back home for a delicious smoothie with farmers market veggies or some local eggs and greens. next we grab back packs, water and snacks and head out for hiking. There are so many hikes to choose. 4 days of hikes: Triple falls in Brevard, followed by shopping downtown at Local Color ( all local artists) Craggy pinnacle on the blue ridge parkway with a picnic at the top, breathtaking views. Hot springs, for a hike and then a soak in the private hot springs tubs. That is amazingly relaxing and after that home to Weaverville for a short walk to the farm to table restaurant, the Glass Onion. or snacks at Maggie B’s wine. the business owners in my small town are nothing short of amazing. For outdoor fun in Asheville, the arboretum for hiking, or Zen tubing, zip lining, ropes course. We can spend a day downtown, shops, museums. The Chocolate Lounge is a must. For nighttime fun, the LaZoom bus comedy tour, makes your cheeks hurt from laughing. There are so many amazing restaurants. you can eat your way through the week. hahahaha My favorite places to eat are: Nine Mile, Posana, White Duck Taco, Green Sage, LeMones, and many more. West Asheville and the River arts district get their own day or evening. There are so many working art studios and galleries, Pause at Dobra Tea house, and ooooooh, maybe some ice cream at The HOP. Some of of my favorite things about this area are all the mom and pop restaurants, breweries, and businesses. Top any day off with a sitting by the fire pit in our yard and experiencing peace. We are inspired, relaxed and loving life. Lastly, rest with the fresh air coming in the window and the sound of birds to wake you in the morning.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First my mom, she always believed in me and encouraged me to live out of the box. All the children I ever painted faces for and served in my 20 years as Scribbles the clown. My biggest shoutout goes to the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness (MSIA) and the teachings of John-Roger that awakened me to practical spirituality. His book, “The Spiritual Warrior” is a favorite. For yoga , Baron Baptiste. For Akashic Records, Ed Conmey. For art, my kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Kahan. For business and life, Michael Neill. Honestly, I have been blessed by too many mentors to name. I am thankful for every one of them. My husband of 30 years, David Hollinshead, has always encouraged and unconditionally loved and supported me through everything. My grown sons, Michael and Christofer have added tremendous richness, fun and adventure to my life and business. I have an awesome tribe of amazing women/sisters and we have each other’s backs, always.
