We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Julie Glick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Julie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my own business by accident – it wasn’t planned at all! Musicians Hearing Solutions was created in 2010 as a culmination of all of my work experience up to that point including working as a clinical audiologist dispensing hearing aids, a sales representative for a major hearing aid manufacturer as well as a combination sales/marketing/audiology position with an in-ear monitor company. Each experience taught me something different – caring for patients hearing health, business and how to successfully run one as well as the ins and outs of all that goes into live performances. I recognized that there was a niche market that needed attention for musicians, sound engineers and music enthusiasts while living in New York City. I have since relocated my business to Los Angeles where I started my career, so I’ve come full circle and am thrilled to be serving the community that kickstarted my career!
What should our readers know about your business?
I have a hybrid business as an audiologist who specializes in tools including custom in-ear monitors and custom musicians earplugs that musicians use during live events to hear themselves clearly and (hopefully) at lower volumes. Audiophiles use these same monitors as custom earphones to enjoy listening to music with passive noise isolation, comfort and incredible detail. I also perform hearing tests and fit patients with the latest in hearing aid technology. Hearing aids have come such a long way since I started my career 23 years ago and are quality of life game changers for those with hearing loss.,
To get to where I am today, I followed my gut, learned from my mistakes quickly and mostly believe in the highest quality of customer service and customization detail for each person I work with.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The itinerary would include definitely a drive up the coast to Malibu – stopping at a restaurant along the water for drinks and bites. Also, would need to include spots in West Hollywood for night life – I love the Sunset Hotel lounge. I’m also a fan of Elephante in Santa Monica. For outside adventure I would take them to Paseo Miramar or Temescal Canyon for a hike and definitely to the beach to relax or ride bikes on the path- I live close to it and it’s my favorite way to unwind and relax.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank all of the manufacturers I work with who entrusted me to serve their clients, which in turn grew my business. I would also like to thank all of those who asked me to participate in press related articles and videos – especially Steve Guttenberg who has always been a big supporter. I couldn’t have done any of this without the support of my close family and friends whose encouragement was and always will be an inspiration. Last but not least to all my clients/patients who I have learned so much from and hopefully helped that much and more in return.
