We had the good fortune of connecting with Eleanor Hammond and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eleanor, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“One day, in retrospect, the years of struggle will strike you as the most beautiful. ” – Sigmund Freud.

I know when I’m 70, and a tired yet content artist who lived, I will laugh in joy at these years of my twenties, where all the mystery of what was to come was still ahead of me. The mystery is one of the most exciting parts of life. I have no idea how it will all happen yet, and that is beautiful.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most proud of the versatility of my sound, and the risks I take in my music. Every release I feel stems from a different genre. This wasn’t intentional. I genuinely just write that way. I am so glad my main producer, Sam Doniger, honors that. Getting here…is it ever easy for an artist? I grew up in Los Angeles, which was a headstart. But my mother had been disabled with MSA since I was 3. My father was a music manager all my life, and now focuses on independent artists like Dead Poet Society, so he’s always had a lot on his plate. And I have a twin brother. I took some music lessons growing up. Then songwriting. I was immediately hooked to a class taught by Lauren Hedgepeth Bruns. She was so cool. She taught me that my twelve year old perspective was important somehow to make into a goddamn SONG she sang with us. So cool. Right now I still live at my mom’s in Los Feliz. I am very lucky to have a home here. I still write songs constantly at age 25. Writing, playing, and singing helped me a lot through my childhood–getting through my mom’s illness and abuse, for example. So, no, it’s never really easy. I have a day job as a nanny and if I had to live in an apartment again in LA, I’d be getting another side hustle as well. Shit is expensive. But it’s worth it for the art. My art is theatrical, versatile, raw, yet interesting pop in its own way. And I love to perform. I promise, if you see me live, I’ll give you a show.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take my bestfriend to Figaro Bistrot for the first night. Yes, it’s a popular spot most people in east LA know about. Amazing service, food, and for fairly affordable prices. They have a happy hour that is to die for. Gonna be honest, I haven’t found my favorite bar in LA yet. But I’d probably take them to Bar Flores after for drinks. If they wanna go out dancing, then Weho next. But I’m not a huge clubber. Throughout the week we’d smoke j’s in Barnsdall, have Taco Tuesday at Trophy Wife ($8 margaritas!), bake pavlova at my house, have a picnic on the beach in Malibu. Maybe have a WI spa day. WI spa is an amazing spa in koreatown. For only $30 a day you can enjoy all of their facilities. They are open 24/7 and also have AMAZING Korean food. Then, we’d go to a friend’s house show. I’d close the trip jamming with them and then stay in playing Mario Kart on Switch because WOW that was a lot of activity.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My father. He always believed in my ability to write lyrics and melodies. He always gave me great feedback, that was honest, sometimes hard to hear, but in turn made me better at my craft.
