We had the good fortune of connecting with Eli Mazahreh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eli, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to make a difference in peoples lives, families, gatherings and just the feel of being together. I started Maza Hummus with these pillars in mind. Family, Kindness and Health. In Family we find comfort, in kindness we find joy and in health we find the passion to do what we love most.

What should our readers know about your business?
Maza Hummus was founded in 2016 with a dream of an immigrant. To make a difference, no matter how small in someones life. We provide a smooth and no oil Hummus that is healthy, diverse in flavor and texture. We craft small batches that are hand filled in our individually hand labelled and dated containers. Every container if filled with our passion and three pillars. Family, kindness and health. In family we find comfort, in kindness we find joy and in health, we find the passion to do what we love most.

Maza Hummus started at local farmers markets across the Sacramento regions. We participated in Vegan seminars and events. We also were part of the health and fitness expo. I started selling Maza Hummus to all my friends and family, through personal deliveries out of my car. Now, with a lot of work and determination, I was able to grow Maza Hummus product offering in more than 50 stores in northern California. Our products can be found at Nugget Markets, Raley’s and Bel air.

Growing pains and Capital are the most common challenges in having and growing your own business. Having your own business is more than a full time job so my advice for anyone who wants to start is to have fun. Enjoy the process, learn and educate fellow members if your society. Dont be afraid, just raid your dreams and bring them into fruition. If I can, then so can you!

Our slogan is “you can’t have just one bite!” and that’s a promise. Check your nearest store for our product and give it a try. Taste the difference in our product and I hope that you can share with your friends and family.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Sacramento provides the best of foods and drinks to all its visitors. From craft beer to cocktails, we have it all. I recommend trying cantina alley, then follow to beer garden for a pint. After that, lets go and have a slice at ricks diner (they got it all, espresso included) .

The best time and experience you can have is checking our local farmers markets. Midtown farmers market and Oak park farmers market are my favorites (every Saturday)

Anything else you want to try, just look for best of Sacramento on Instagram.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother! She raised me to be an independent individual with aspirations and dreams. She taught me about hope and the difference it makes in a persons life. My mother is my biggest supporter and the strongest person I know. She was an entrepreneur herself and taught me about perseverance and persistence. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for her.
