We had the good fortune of connecting with Esther Gibson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Esther, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The Idea for Oath Hair Co. was birthed from a dilemma. I am a hairstylist and at the time clients would come in for hair extensions and have specific desires for color and texture, but the extensions they would bring would not allow the results. So I began searching for hair that would allow me to achieve the results that my clients desired.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Oath Hair Co. is an extension, no pun intended of my love for hair. What sets me apart from the others is that as a licensed cosmetologist while sourcing I am looking for very particular things. I look for different densities, lengths, and textures. Can this hair be colored to match a person who wears vivids or blonde? I am most proud of that fact that I can help people feel great about how they look. A lot of people think that extensions are about vanity, but many people use our extensions due to hair loss or to camouflage thinning hair, or while they are growing out a haircut. Seeing a smile after an appointment or getting emails saying they pleased with how full their hair looks or how the texture matched perfectly is very rewarding. I have gotten to where I am today with a lot of prayer, diligence, and hard work! It has not been an easy road, but it has been worth it. I have overcome obstacles by creating creative solutions to problems that arise, being flexible, and staying the course. Some lessons I have learned along the way are to stay true to who you are. It feels very cliché to say but it is true; that bit of personality or that quirk maybe the thing that sets you apart. Keep your eyes on your lane. It is very easy to start looking at what others are dong and how they are doing it and to become distracted or discouraged and you can veer off for what it is that you originally intended to do. The last would be ask for help. As a one woman show I was the master of covering all the bases, thankfully I have capable people with varying skill sets who are willing to help me and I have tapped into that. Shameless plug here, I want the world to know that at Oath Hair Co. we pride ourselves on beautiful hair. Shop with us for the best in custom wigs and hair extensions, and beauty products.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestie was in town for a week long trip (lets pretend its summer and precovid 19) I’m in Northern NJ and we are close to the city so with no questions asked we would we take the train into the city. We would visit the MOMA, The High line (very cool), grab some roasted nuts from a street cart, and catch a show on Broadway. For food we would go to Momofuku for some pork buns and the chicken dinner. The rest of the week we would hang around NJ, visit a day spa, walk the board walk at Liberty State Park either early to catch the sun rise or at night to see the skyline, do some shopping at the Mills at Jersey Gardens, take a dinner cruise or grab some dinner and drinks from Harry’s Daughter (Jersey City). Last we would head to the shore- I love the beach, for some fun in the sun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without question I want to should out my family and friends. They have been my sounding board, encouragement, walking billboards, and so much more.
