We had the good fortune of connecting with Estie Rand and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Estie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
10 years ago I was forced to leave my job as CIO due to a toxic environment. As a mom of 3 little kids at the time (I now have 5), I really struggled to find a job that would enable me to balance my professional and personal life. I realized that I had no choice but to go out on my own. Being super risk-averse I took on 3 jobs and started doing consulting and coaching as a side gig, in the hopes that it would become a full service consulting firm. Well, 10+ years later, we are a multinational full service creative consultancy with staff and clients in 9 time zones around the globe. And the majority of my staff? Moms to whom I give the same benefits of flex time I wish I could have found 10 years ago.

What should our readers know about your business?
I like to tell people that my day job is just to help business owners earn more money with less headache. My company, Strand Consulting, is a full service creative consultancy giving top level services to micro-level businesses. I’m most excited and proud of how we cracked the code to organic marketing strategy. Having grown my own company to over 6-figures in profit in under two years, with zero in ad spend, I now teach thousands of business owners how to do the same.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the beach. All beaches. So I think I would probably do a beach tour of some sort, each day checking out a different area and then dining wherever the lights catch our eye.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to the book “How to Win Friends and Influence People”. I read this book over 20 years ago and still practice its fundamentals every day. Both with our clients and our staff, putting people and their needs first is the only way to work in the 21st century and I credit Dale Carnegie, author of the book, as the first person who taught me that. My favorite daily use concept is: no one cares about me- they only care about themselves and what I can do for them. Whether staff or clients, the only way to run a business is to focus outwards. Thanks Dale!
