We had the good fortune of connecting with Faissel Farhi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Faissel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business has always been my ticket to intellectual and financial freedom. Growing up, I was the rebellious kid who always wanted to do things differently and not to follow the norms. I did get into trouble few times but that was never a deterrent from challenging myself and trying new things. After my graduation from college, I took some entry level positions which helped gain the necessary experience at the time. Most of my peers were extremely excited and happy just to have a job and have the potential to grow within these companies, but that was never the case for me. Knowing that nothing was going to give me the total satisfaction other than being my own boss, I started pursuing my current journey. All I had at the time was my determination and persistence which without, nobody can start a business not alone make it successful.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a company that specializes in the design, manufacturing and import of ancient Moroccan mosaics. We have a niche market that expects excellence in attention to details in every aspect. We are extremely proud to represent this 13th century moorish art work. Believing in ourselves and our product was always the driving force behind our success. It has been a challenging journey from the beginning and I personally have had family members and dear friends telling me to stop because it was never going to work, but there was never a time that I thought about quitting. I strongly believe that success starts within ourselves, if you envision something and gave it enough time while trying to make it work, it will work. Patience, determination and hard work always prevail. We believe in our product and we represent it in the best way we know how. Our clients are much appreciated and we are always willing to go above and beyond to keep them happy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
LA is such an interesting city with so much diversity and excitement. I would definitely show my guests something different each day of the week. A day in Venice beach, Santa monica and Malibu is a must. I live an active life style, therefore I would encourage them to perhaps ride a bicycle with me by the water. There are also so many nice and healthy restaurants to choose from in the area, so maybe lunch at The Butcher’s Daughter then dinner at Tar & Roses. Another day, I would suggest downtown LA for more of an urban life style experience, there are also several restaurants, lounges and clubs to choose from. A third day could be spent in Hollywood which every tourist must experience, perhaps end the day at the LA observatory. Another day, I would take my guests for a hike and get them to see LA from a nice elevation. Perhaps on another day we would visit orange county coast line and vibrant cities. Southern California has some of the best weather worldwide, anything you do with a guest outdoors would be 100% enjoyable.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
