We had the good fortune of connecting with Florentina Beck and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Florentina, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
How do I know that I need to keep going? I feel it! I feel it with my whole body and soul and I know what it takes to get it done! Passion is the driving force when I chase my dream and I think of myself as unstoppable…however, while I was performing at a theater performance in Kosovo, I dislocated my knee in front of full audience on the opening night, right when the play started…I was in big pain but I felt that the show must go on. I ended up finishing the play like nothing happened. While the curtains were closing down, I was rushed to the hospital. This is what I call not giving up and to keep going no matter what!

Just as I know how to not give up, I also know when to give up…It all depends on what it is that I’m giving up. When it comes to my pursuing my dream, whenever I feel that I’ve exhausted all the tries, I’d collect myself and try again and again. If I am exhausted and need a break, nowadays I tell myself to stop, breathe and take a break. There’s always tomorrow!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Besides playing in a hundred plays and theaters, I also was nominated and am 5 times Best Actress winner from different Festivals in Balkans. Just few months ago I was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in Nice Film Festival for my “I, Father” portrayal of Irma, also I was part of “Bini” a film by Erblin Nushi that was nominated for Student Academy Awards.

I, proudly have masters degree in Film and Theater.

I started studying acting at the age of thirteen at the Odhise Paskali School of Art in Peja. I got involved as a very young, happy and enthusiastic girl but I realized that studying or acting wasn’t just fun: it was way more deep and it does require a lot of work and experience. Yet this made me love acting even more. Then, I went on to continue my graduate studies at the Faculty of Arts in Prishtina where I received my Master’s Degree.

Overall, it was one of my greatest journeys of my life. I was lucky to have great teachers, who then went on to become my best friends. Proud of my teacher, Arbnesha Grabovci – Nixha. Great teacher and mentor.

Learning and reading all the plays, books and watching lots of shows shaped me to have more confidence and helped me shred all those backstage fears and let me become who I am today. I can distinguish two important segments of this path. First, on the personal level, it made me more familiar with the acting world. The demands and opportunities that opened up for me. Secondly, on the artistic level, made me view life and art in a different unknown view till then.

I’m proud of my work and I try to reflect and bring all my knowledge and culture of my great Albanian heritage on everything I do. I’m a proud Albanian actress who lives in Los Angeles, CA.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First stop. My patio. Coffee and chat for hours. When we run out of coffee will take them to get some more coffee, LOL. I’d definitely would take them to Pacific Ocean. Santa Monica, Malibu. Hollywood Walk Of Fame and Hollywood Sign.
I love LACMA and Getty Museum and Getty Villa. Downtown Los Angeles to see Walt Disney building. Then off to Disneyland!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A lot of people played an important part in my journey, as a human being, and as an actress. Lot of stories and events have shaped and defined me in becoming the person that I’m today.
I would dedicate my shout-out, to my father Naim Ademi. Who was the first person that believed in me and gave me courage to pursue my dream and still keep reminding me, to go on.
He sacrificed a lot to pay for my studies and he never missed any of my theater performances. He is the most honest spectator and he taught me to have patience, to work hard, and to be honest. His words and his love always gave me strength to move forward.
