We had the good fortune of connecting with Frankie Morales and we’ve shared our conversation below. We’re always thrilled to see new, independent media outlets thriving and we hope you’ll check out his story and site.

Hi Frankie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was born with the entrepreneurial spirit. Some call me a “serial entrepreneur” but I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not. I launched my first real business when I was 25 years old – it was an LGBT lifestyle magazine and the first of its kind based in Long Beach, CA. When the market crashed in 2007, I ended up making a deal with a large LGBT media firm in Los Angeles and merged my company into that one. From then on (and for the past decade or so), I’ve worked for other publishers, but even working for other publishers, I launched new titles for them. It was like I ran my own company without all the stress… but also without all the rewards, per se.

But today’s a new era and I’m back to being a genuine entrepreneur again.

CaliforniaListings.com came into fruition because of two reasons: 1. Over my 20-year tenure in real estate media, I have created a very trusted network of real estate professionals. They recognize how hard I work to produce results for them – and, over time, many have befriended me as well. I knew I could count on their support when I was ready to launch this new platform. Well, I didn’t really know, but I was hopeful. And it was a good bet. 2. I saw a need in the current marketplace. I actually solved the very problem I had when shopping for a home. I couldn’t get any of my offers approved because I was using an agent/friend who wasn’t truly familiar with the neighborhood I was trying to buy into. If he was a local expert, he would have worked his magic on the insider track (I believe) to get me into my dream home in my dream neighborhood. With CaliforniaListings.com, you can find a vetted top agent by neighborhood search.

CaliforniaListings.com is also a daily resource covering California real estate, editorially. You no longer have to go to 5-10 different sites, pay to subscribe, or log in. Our team is scrubbing the Internet every day to bring our readers the best stories they need to know in a quick-read format – without paying, subscribing, or logging in. Made easy.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
CaliforniaListings.com is not reinventing the wheel here. There are many agent networks in existence. What sets ours apart is legitimacy and staying hyper local. What we’ve created is an awesome top agent network with vetted agents in CA. You can’t just buy your way in like all the others. You must meet certain criteria to qualify.

You can see our full list of qualified agents on CaliforniaListings.com/Agents. What’s special about all of our founding agents who came on board right at the beginning: I’ve worked with all of them for many, many years. They trust me and they know I have good intentions. And they believe in the fact that I wanted to create a legitimate platform. It’s the sense of trust and transparency that has driven my personal success. And now we can see that translate into my professional, entrepreneurial success, too.

My advice to any new entrepreneur: Stay real. Stay honest. Stay you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a native Angeleno, I love showing how awesome LA is to my NYC friends or anyone else visiting from out of town. I have my favorite run of the city: brunch at Weho Bistro; quick Hollywood sign sighting up on Beachwood Canyon; shopping down Melrose; dinner at Katana on Sunset (or Yamashiro) ; then an ice cream dip at Carmela on Third and/or drinks at Revolver in West Hollywood.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I had this idea for a real estate resource site specifically for California, I knew who to bring the idea to and who to bring on board the company. I didn’t want to do this one alone. I’m super grateful that my two business partners believed in my idea and have invested so much time and energy to bring it to life. Major kudos to Vahid Pourhabib, our genius webmaster, and Jeff Katz, our lustrous editor-in-chief. Our rapid success is because of them. Grateful.
