We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabrielle Vargas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabrielle, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“The Four Agreements
1. Be impeccable with your word.
2. Don’t take anything personally.
3. Don’t make assumptions.
4. Always do your best. ”

One of my very best friends in high school gifted me the book “the Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz This powerful book changed my whole perspective of the world and shifted how I interacted with myself and others. The lessons in this book gave me huge amount of freedom to live my life without attachments. “The Four Agreements” resonate with me because they offer a straightforward yet profound approach to improving our relationships with ourselves and others. Here’s what I particularly appreciate about each agreement:

Be impeccable with your word: This agreement highlights the importance of honesty and kindness. It encourages us to use our words constructively and to avoid gossip or self-criticism. It’s a reminder that our language has the power to build or break, and being mindful of this can lead to more positive and authentic interactions.

Don’t take anything personally: This one is powerful because it frees us from the burden of other people’s judgments and behaviors. It’s a way to maintain our emotional equilibrium and recognize that what others say or do is often a reflection of their own issues, not a statement about our worth or actions.

Don’t make assumptions: This agreement promotes clear communication and understanding. By avoiding assumptions, we reduce misunderstandings and conflicts. It encourages us to seek clarity and ask questions rather than jumping to conclusions, which can lead to more genuine connections.

Always do your best: This is about striving for personal excellence without attaching ourselves to specific outcomes. It’s a reminder that our best effort in any given moment is enough, and it encourages growth and perseverance. It helps us approach challenges with a positive mindset and self-compassion.

What stands out to me about these agreements is their simplicity and their applicability to everyday life. They provide a framework for improving self-awareness and interpersonal relationships, leading to a more fulfilling and harmonious life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art takes many forms, including drawing, painting, performance, improv, and stand-up comedy. I’ve often been called a renaissance woman because I’m constantly learning new skills. What sets me apart is my unique perspective—I notice details most people overlook, such as the subtleties of nature and our interactions with it. I’ve reached my current position by taking risks and trusting that, even if I can’t see the entire path ahead, the road will reveal itself as I continue moving forward. Along with the continued support of my family and friends, I wouldn’t be where I am today without those connections. It hasn’t been all butterflies and rainbows, though. Nothing worth doing comes easy; it has taken a lot of sacrifice and ongoing learning experiences. I’ve had to learn to live in the present moment and be my true, authentic self without judgment. What I want the world to know about me is that no matter what joke I’m telling or character I’m playing, I hope to inspire courage, strength, and positivity. At the end of the day, I Just wanna create fun things with my friends that make people happy.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friend visits, we go on a whirlwind tour of Southern California. First stop after LAX? In-N-Out, because nothing says “Welcome to California” like a double-double. Then, we hit the beach. If my friend’s a repeat offender, we’ll head to Venice to watch the skaters. If they’re new, it’s off to Palos Verdes for some cliff jumping. Fun fact: It’s where they filmed the cave scenes in “The Lost Boys,” so you can feel like a cool vampire while you’re at it.

Next, we drive down to see the La Brea Tar Pits and get our obligatory selfie with the Hollywood Sign at the Hollywood Sign dog park. Perfect views of the city and adorable dogs? Yes, please. We’re museum junkies, so a trip to the MOCA is a must—bonus points for being free!

Nighttime calls for The Black Rabbit Rose for live music and magic, followed by a comedy club trifecta: The Improv, The Laugh Factory, and finishing off the night at The Comedy Store.

After conquering Hollywood, we escape the city for some nature therapy. Joshua Tree is my go-to—it’s literally an energy vortex, and after a day there, you’ll feel like a new person. Or at least, a very relaxed version of yourself.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
