We had the good fortune of connecting with Gavin Maxwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gavin, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Being as authentic as possible with my audience! I find that people engage the most with my online content when I am being as true to myself as possible. Most people try to create a fake persona online which people can see right through, what I have learned over the years is to show people the real me. That’s why they follow you after all!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The “bar” is my canvas and my movement is art! I express myself through physical movement via freestyle calisthenics combos we call “flows”. What excites me the most about it is that anyone can do calisthenics because all you need is your body. You don’t need any experience in gymnastics or any other sports to start, and it is one of the fastest-growing extreme sports in the world today. In order to get where I am today, I essentially had to drop everything else in my life and 100% committed to becoming a professional athlete and fitness trainer. There were many people who doubted I could do it especially because it is not a very well-known sport, but that is what makes it so rewarding now.
What I want the world to know about my brand/story is that A LOT of people can “talk the talk” aka teach something they aren’t experts in themselves whereas with my brand people can tell it is authentic and real! I have grinded a long time to get to where I am today and my clients and followers can see that in the “realness” of my posts.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Start your day in Santa Monica, rent a metro bike, and take the bike path down to Venice beach! There are so many cool little shops, graffiti art, and awesome places to take pictures along the way so feel free to stop wherever you like.
Spend some time north and south of LA along the coast. Enjoy the serene views in Malibu while you enjoy some nice seafood along the PCH. Another day you should travel south towards Laguna Beach, as there are many amazing beach spots there as well.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
West Coast Warriorz for being the team that changed my life and so many others in the street workout community here in Los Angeles!
