We had the good fortune of connecting with Gene Shibuya and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gene, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I really enjoy the creative process of visualizing a shooting plan and delivering images that exceed expectations. A freelance production business gives me the opportunity to engage in this process for clients who need videos for their businesses and projects.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most excited about the planning and execution of a creative plan to make videos for a wide variety of clients and purposes. I faced a number of challenges in learning the ongoing changes in equipment and software and how to apply them to video creation, and I am proud of the portfolio I have assembled. I learned the importance of being open minded and developing a general approach applicable to every situation. I would like the world to know about my shooting style and journey to create it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite feature of Los Angeles is its access to both urban settings and great natural landscapes. I would take them on a tour of beaches in Malibu, the mountains of Santa Monica, and then the museums and restaurant scene in Downtown LA. I would include visits to the Grand Central Market and the MOCA, the Museum of Contemporary Art.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A shout out to all fellow creatives who want to do what inspires them.
