We had the good fortune of connecting with Gina Kim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gina, what do you attribute your success to?
Beyond business models and analytics. Beyond grit and grind.
Beyond connections and happenstance.
The most important factor influencing my success with Gina K Acupuncture is simply: I care.

I care about my craft.
I care about my clients.

I love my craft.
Acupuncture and herbal medicine are more art forms than science. The aesthetic mystery of what I practice is what captivated me and it continues to maintain its alluring effect on me. I love the intrigue of how something invisible like qi can exhibit itself in tangible ways to bring healing and engender health. I love discerning patterns. I love reading between the lines. My craft keeps me curious.

I work with sharp needles and bitter herbs. Things people naturally gravitate towards. Not. In reality, by the time patients walk into my clinic, they’re pretty desperate. And more often than not, they place their last hope in me. That strikes a chord of compassion within me, and I want to help.

It’s actually enkindling to my soul to know that I have a set of skills that enables me to take away someone’s pain or discomfort. Needles to dissipate migraines. Herbs to calm anxious minds. I love that I can drop in on someone’s life time and time again to make a difference for the better.

An element that I appreciate about my craft is its timelessness. Oriental medicine has remained unchanged for thousands of years and is just as relevant today as it was in the beginning. Although some modalities have been refined with advances in technology (like the fact that I can bottle up herbs as supplement pills instead of brewing them up in the form of traditional decoctions), what I practice remains rather uninterrupted. That’s why I labeled my brand of herbal supplements Aeterna. The formulas are ancient yet timeless as they still provide holistic healing for the modern life.

I like to keep my connections organic, but I also like to think that when paths cross, they do so for a reason.
That gives me purpose.
That keeps me caring.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
After I passed my boards, it took me well over a decade to feel comfortable enough to venture out on my own. I trained under a mentor who provided me with a safe place to grow into a competent and caring clinician. Gina K Acupuncture was born because I finally felt capable of crawling out of my own cocoon. It didn’t take too long to unfold my wings. In my practice today, I treat simple sprains to more chronic and complicated conditions like claustrophobia. I use acupuncture, cupping, moxa and herbal medicine to treat my patients. I love working with athletes. It’s fun and rewarding to watch them return to play and accomplish amazing feats. I also have a line of herbal formulas called Aeterna Supplements. Many are finding natural solutions to insomnia, stubborn weight, and fatigue with these bottles. I suppose I’m starting to enjoy the fruits of my labor, and fortunately, it’s a labor of love.
