Meet Gio McKinley | Artist, Songwriter, Singer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gio McKinley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gio, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is from the movie Wonder Woman 1984 when Steve Trevor explains flying to Diana. “It’s so easy, really. it’s wind and air and knowing how to ride it, how to catch it, how to join with it.” The quote means so many things to me but primarily I feel like it references chasing your dreams. You just have to go for it because telling yourself it is easy helps you soar. I love how this quote was meant to explain flying but can be taken in so many different ways throughout life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a singer / song writer and my songs have deep meaning for events that have happened in my life. I am very proud that my experiences can be put to music to help other people through their personal experiences. Getting to this point in my career was very difficult. I had a family tragedy that pushed me to move to the United States with nothing. I had to start from zero and it took a long time to get the money and support that I needed to succeed. I learned that you should never give up on your dreams and if it is meant to be you will always find a way to achieve them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite places in LA are highlighted in two of my music videos. I would take them to all the locations featured. We would go and visit Hollywood Blvd and the walk of fame. Walk along Venice beach and eat at the little shops along the walk. The road to the Hollywood sign overlooking Los Angeles is my favorite view at night.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to send a shout out to the love of my life. This person is always supportive and with me in everything that I do in life. I couldn’t do what I do or be who I am without them. I also want to send out shout out to my family in the United States and Colombia for always showing me the love and support I need.
