We had the good fortune of connecting with Glenn Bolton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Glenn, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Realizing it was more satisfying than working in an automotive factory. That and I’m too polite for armed robbery.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The thing that sets me apart from others is my curiosity and fearlessness of uncharted territories. I’m the most proud of my upcoming hip hop comedy EP about food “We Eatin Out Here” It’s a project that’s been with me throughout my time as a producer and it combines everything I do. I produced it, wrote it, recorded, and engineered it myself. I got to where I am today because whatever I do, I approach with an MMA fighter’s mentality. Whether it’s standup comedy, producing music, or playing the bass, I’m growing because I’m getting my reps in. Side note: I never fought. I just trained for a little bit. Please don’t try to fight me. Was it easy? No, but greatness doesn’t come from easy unless you’re the Commodores. I love that song. “Easy like a Sunday morning. YEEEAH-E-YEAHH!” I’ve learned a ton of lessons along the way, but the biggest is meaningful connections are key in building a solid professional foundation. Once you’ve slept in someone’s home studio eating oatmeal everyday, you know there’s something real there. Beats schmoozing 9 times out of 9. What I want the world to know about my brand is that it’s here just as a morale booster it’s here for you to laugh and dance I’m not trying to preach any heavy messages or be political or anything like that I literally just want people to be entertained and be united.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first place we’re going is Sweet Flower to stock up on 420 goodies. Then it’s off to Entre Nous in Pasadena for dinner and a cocktail. Definitely going to hit some comedy venues (Hollywood Improv, The Comedy Store, and Supernova for sure). Since we’re both musicians, a trip to the Hollywood Rock Walk and renting studio space for a jam session at Bedrock.LA are pretty much mandatory. A trip to LA isn’t complete without donuts so SK’s, Colorado Donuts, and Lêberry Bakery are all on the itinerary. After we wake up from our sugar crash, we’ll go for a hike at Vasquez Rocks.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My good friend and mentor Ben Berkowitz and his business We Love Dogs LA. He’s been such a key figure in my growth creatively, in business, and in life.
