We had the good fortune of connecting with Grace Isaacs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Grace, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from a small town in Pennsylvania called Hatboro which got its name after a man who manufactured a line of hats. Clever right?! My high school mascot was also a hat…hats are a pretty big deal there! I grew up in a very family oriented household. I am the youngest of 3 and the only girl! I have 2 older brothers who are simply the best and I could not love them more! I have a big, loving and crazy extended family full of cousins who are more like siblings, Aunts + Uncles who feed us way too much and the best Grandparents who’s doors are always open. Then there’s my parents who are the reason I am the person I am today. Obviously I am biased but I have been so unbelievably blessed with 2 parents who are kind, loving, supportive and the true definition of being selfless. They would rush home from work to make sure I got to dance on time, never miss a sporting event or performance, tuck us in at night before bed and always encourage us to follow our dreams knowing that they would be with us every step of the way. Things took a big turn when my family suffered a huge loss a few years back when my oldest brother Kevan unexpectedly passed away. I was 21 at the time and could not possibly fathom how to comprehend it. Seeing how my parents handled this unimaginable loss that no parent should ever have to go through proved to me even more just how strong they truly are. My family started a non-profit foundation called Pennies From Kevan Foundation in my brothers honor where we work with organizations that help those in need, something my brother cared very deeply about. We raise funds to help local providers of essential services in the Philadelphia and Los Angeles areas, so that more needs can be met.
I continue to carry the lessons I’ve learned in my life with me every day. I chose to not live with regrets and embrace each new day! Currently I am living in California with my amazing fiancé, have an adorable pup named Kora, work for an amazing non-profit and co-host a podcast with my best friend David called Back To The Best where we talk about all things 90’s – 2000’s nostalgia. I am so grateful for the life I’ve lived so far and can’t wait to see what’s to come! The loss of my beloved brother taught me just how precious every moment is. Tomorrow is not guaranteed and I never take a single thing for granted. If you woke up today, put a smile on your beautiful face and get out there! We are so lucky to be alive. Let’s make the most of it!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I work for an amazing non-profit called empowerHER®. Our mission is to empower, support and connect girls and young women who have experienced the loss of their mother. empowerHER is the only organization in the country specifically working to address the struggles of girls whose mothers have died. I am so proud to work with such incredible women every day and be even a small part of helping girls who have experienced grief. I lost my brother at the age of 21 and didn’t know how I was supposed to just keep living a “normal” life. I didn’t know anyone who had experienced what I was going through and I didn’t feel like I could talk to anyone about it. Being able to share your grief with people who can relate is so helpful and I am proud to be a part of an organization that works to do this every day.
I also co-host a podcast called Back To The Best. I host it with my best friend David Hopping and we cover all things 90’s – 2000’s nostalgia! We met working as tour guides at Warner Brothers and realized pretty quickly that we both shared a love for nostalgia. We had this idea for a podcast over 2 years ago, narrowed down a name, put a logo together and we’ve never looked back! We release a new episode every Thursday, post a Q&A every Wednesday on our Instagram, frequently post videos on our TikTok and upload vlogs, reviews and collabs to our YouTube channel (when the pandemic allows lol). While we were both stuck inside last year during the pandemic, we used that time wisely and reached out to potential guests constantly. We were able to interview some of our favorite 90’s & 2000’s stars and can’t wait to see what guests we continue to meet and have on our podcast in the future! We have such a love for our podcast and the subjects we talk about that it truly never feels like work. We love interviewing guests, recording episodes, creating content and always make sure we find topics that will appeal to anyone who happens to find us!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take anyone coming to visit me to Disneyland of course! I am an Annual Passholder and love going to Disney any free chance I get! Hiking is also so beautiful here in California so that’s always a great activity!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my should out to my parents, Pennies From Kevan Foundation and Back To The Best Podcast!
