We had the good fortune of connecting with Greg Inda and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Greg, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
One habit that has helped me immensely is a staying curious. As a photographer, curiosity helps me dig into the nuance of a subject I’m covering. Photography is often about observing the world around us. So it’s important that you know what you’re looking at. Notice patterns. Notice when something is out of place. It’s like the FedEx logo. Once you see the arrow between the E and the X, you can’t unsee it.

Staying curious is also about being interested in the subjects you’re photographing. If that’s a person, knowing their story helps you communicate who they are. If that’s a landscape, what do green grasses say about land that went through a drought a year ago? What does a storm mean to a beach? What visual relationships are meaningful? What is just static?

Finding answers starts with asking questions. And questions start with curiosity.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a photographer I’ve thought of myself more as a collaborator than an individual artist. I guess one thing that has set me apart is that I rarely think of myself as creative. I think the best thing I can do is pick other amazing artists and find ways to build something together. That can be something conscious in say a photoshoot setting in which I’m bringing a photographic skillset to the table and my collaborator brings their skillsets. Or it can be unconscious when photographing a live performance. I count myself as very good at capturing performers on stage, but I still view it as a collaboration. I’m feeding off of what they’re doing just as much as if we’re in a studio.

The downside is that I rarely self generate projects. All my projects generally come from asking or being asked to participate in something. But over time that’s gotten a lot easier. And as I’ve created more work, more people want to be a part of that work. So work begets work.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I once had a friend from out of town visit from Las Vegas and he said “Take me to the sights!” My friend and I took him to a small outdoor pub that had good salads and good burger. We ate under a beautiful night sky and shared stories, and it’s one of the most memorable evenings I’ve ever had. Which is all to say I want to go places where we can talk and hear each other.

So for me that’s uncrowded bars, walking along the beach, maybe a museum. And there are plenty of beautiful examples of those to go around.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe my success to so many people. My partner Lindsey Marks (of Lady Jack Entertainment), who has been a source of inspiration (she is the most talented performer I know and absolutely brilliant), and a sounding board for any of the thoughts keeping me up at 3am. Eva la Feva who has been booking me and supporting me for more than 5 years. My growth as an artist is intrinsically tied to the opportunities she’s given me. My Mom who has been supportive my whole life and gave me time to figure things out (through many many many different iterations of what I thought I wanted to do). And two of my oldest friends Steven Townshend and Mike Davenport, with whom I’ve worked out lots of complicated thoughts and emotions over many coffees and hours long phone calls.
