We had the good fortune of connecting with Gunner Thind and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gunner, how do you think about risk?
I think risk-taking is a strategic assessment; it is a means to evaluate the path ahead, identify roadblocks, and test your grit. I would even say risk-taking is essential to plot the best way forward. You never know what lies ahead, and calculated risk-taking is the best way to find out and strategize for the win.

I don’t think anybody can get comfortable with taking risks, and it makes the experience wholesome; it is a constant process of learning, evolution, and seeking ways to maximize your creativity and live up to your true potential.

Risk-taking played an instrumental role in my life. I come from a family of mavericks (Independent-minded) thinkers, and risk-taking is one trait I found in common among them. I learned at an early age that to create a life you desire, you must take full ownership of your present and the future, pave your own path, take risks, and get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

My father immigrated to Canada in the early-mid 1970s with little to no education and no source of income. He took a risk and left India at age 18 to make his vision a reality. Stumbling across Europe and the Middle East, he worked odd jobs yet always kept his head high and sought more.

Growing up in the home of an immigrant small business owner, I knew hard work and dedication are instrumental to success, and no job or dream is too big or too small. Like my father, I have been self-employed for the last 14 years, moving forward one step at a time to make my business a distinction in both Canada and USA.

What should our readers know about your business?
Sure. My Firm and Collective have vast experience negotiating contracts and securing endorsement deals. Our team represents exceptional athletes exceptionally. Besides draft preparation and contract negotiation, we provide elite athletes with top-of-the-line marketing services to create winning impressions. Over the years, we have worked with numerous top brands and partners to promote and establish client relationships and endorsements and ensure they win on and off the field on repeat.

Today, I serve as the Founder/Lead Strategist for the clientele portfolio with an equity interest. I formulated the company amidst a career transition. I had been close to local sports franchises and athletes in WA and felt the switch was a natural fit.

However, the decision was not easy. I did have connections in the industry, but the road ahead was uncertain and hurdle-filled. Moving forward one step at a time, I took a certification course, teamed up with a couple of mentors, and moved back to LA to begin the hunt for my passion, and this newly-attained clarity led to its discovery in rapid time. Now I knew what I wanted to do and what I loved the most — to build harmonious connections between people for business and life.

Honestly, the move back wasn’t easy. I was coming back to the place from where I started it all at the age of 22. My friends, acquaintances, and family had all moved on, and I was back in LA. There were days I questioned why did I leave a multi-million dollar hospitality business powered by 128 employees to start anew. However, I knew deep down inside that I could do it all over again in the industry I loved, and all I needed was to stay true to my vision and keep moving forward.

During this time, I heard countless phrases like ‘it’s a bad idea,’ ‘it won’t work,’ and ‘it is time for you to settle down and take fewer risks.’

Now a 36-year-old, who successfully reinvented himself, built a successful boutique agency from the ground up, and lead a 15 full-time employee team, I often hear, ‘I am proud of you.’

So, I think it is okay to say that it is never a sin to dream, and when you chase a dream while helping others achieve theirs, the journey only gets easier. Just keep your head high, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Be the trailblazer of your story!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, this is an easy question for me. I have been around food and beverage my entire childhood. My father ran a Greek and Italian restaurant in Vancouver. I live in the Palisades Hills, and my office is in the center of Beverly Hills. Put those things together, and you will find one common — sushi.

There are many local hidden gems and Instagram-worthy restaurants around the town. However, I truly enjoy eating at Matsuhisa – the real Nobu, followed by drinks at Wally’s. Moreover, I would make time to drive them to East Boyle Heights for some authentic mariscos and ceviche, or perhaps take them to Felix in Venice Beach or Olivetta West Hollywood for some pasta.

Simply put, I believe we live in the best city in the world for flavors, ambiance, and weather.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The one person I’d like to ‘shoutout’ is Sidney James — a true friend, advisor, and a brother (not by blood) by a much deeper connection.

I met Sidney in Redmond, WA. He grew up in Montgomery, AL, and had just moved to Seattle from Atlanta. I had also settled in Seattle and was working on expanding my hospitality business. Introduced by a close friend, synergy and coherence in our visions were exceptional.

I found myself amid such an elite company of friends that envisioned excellence, shared my values, and were unafraid to dream big. I could bet our bond would be a hit, and it turned out so. Over the last years, we have traveled to various cities for business and leisure, attended many events and dinners, and sparked creative talks amidst like-minded trailblazers.

I still remember the time when the path ahead was vague, and we didn’t know what to do, yet still, we all had unwavering support from one another, a power that fueled us forward and kept us aligned with our vision and dreams.
