Meet Harris Choe | Founder and CEO of HYC Physio Physical Therapy & Sports Performance

We had the good fortune of connecting with Harris Choe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Harris, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is my strong community of friends and family. When I first started this business and even today, there are days when I start to question my ability to succeed. There are days when my motivation is at an all-time low and I don’t know which direction to move in. However, without fail, it has been the endless support from my community that has powered me to move forward. I’m thankful to have supportive family members as well as my number one supporter, my wife. They all push me to become the best professional I can be.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my own practice, so that I can combine the principles of performance training and physical therapy to provide a holistic approach to health-care. At HYC Physio, every client receives 1:1 hour sessions with a doctorate of physical therapy as well as receiving individualized rehab programs. Our goal is to provide effective interventions that are catered towards the needs of each persons’ goals. The growth of my business could not be possible without my clinical mentors who helped refine my clinical knowledge as well as the trust of my clients, who allow me to play a part in their rehab journey. It was never an easy journey to make the leap to start my own practice. I was bombarded with thoughts of self-doubt and fear. They still haunt me at times to this day; however, the strong support of my friends and family have helped me overcome my fears. They have helped elevate the quality of professional services I provide for the public. The greatest lesson I learned on this journey is from Nike Master Trainer Brian Nunez “You cannot fail if your intention is to serve”. I want the world to know that I plan to change the landscape of health care and physical therapy. I want to provide service that are centered around people’s goals rather than money goals.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles is probably one of the most diverse food scenes in the US, maybe even in the states. We would have to make sure we get a workout in at the number one gym in Santa Monica, Blue Republic Crossfit. Then we can go on a food tour depending on what we’re feeling. Mexican food is a must, so we would go to either Avenue 26 Tacos or Brothers Cousins Tacos. Coffee is essential every morning and I would highly recommend Boy and the Bear. Of course, night time activities are recommended in Koreatown, ranging from KBBQ, Tofu Soup, Brazilian BBQ, etc. Some great places to visit for outdoor activities would be riding a bike along Ballona Creek, Venice Boardwalk, or Hiking.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My biggest encouragement comes from my dad. Immigrating to the states right after high-school, my dad quickly learned not only the english language, but also the fine skills of a contractor. From an early age, I had the opportunity to volunteer at my dad’s job sites and watch him remodel a home, renovate kitchens, and even build an entire home. Through his actions and his love to support our family, I was able to see his company grow through his honest work. As a growing adult and entrepreneur, I’ve learned to appreciate his relentless work ethic, strong mindset, and his passion for his job. Being able to experience his growth has motivated me to build something as great as what he has done for our family. In addition, shoutouts to my wife, who continues to motivate me with her remarkable achievements in amplifying the voices of the AAPI community.
