We had the good fortune of connecting with Talent, Comedian and Storyteller Hazel Calderon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hazel, how do you think about risk?
When you are in the process of making a dream into reality, Risk Taking is Everything. Moving to Los Angeles, working as a commercial talent, and having the opportunity to developing my career has been rewarding. If you are trying to get ahead, Risk Taking never goes away. Think about it! Every idea you ever had, required risk. It has been over a year since I started Stand-Up Comedy and initially it was terrifying but as I continued to followed through, the more confident I became. So thank you risks for always pushing me to be the best I can.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an Actress, Comedian and Influencer. My creativity manifests in many forms and can be seen on TV, Live Streaming Shows and Social Media Content. My perseverance sets me apart from the crowd and once you get to know me it is apparent that the energy I bring to this life is on a different level. I just did my DNA test and was not surprised to find out I am predominantly energizer bunny. I’m proud to have had the opportunity to represent Nicaragua in the Miss World Pageant. I am grateful to be currently working in the commercial industry and looking forward to my growth in the comedy scene. When you are making a dream into reality it involves taking major risks. Developing your mind, body and spirit requires a lot of mental focus and hard work. I was shooting for excellence! If there is one lesson I can share it’s to never give up. Everyone has a divine path and it’s up to you to unlock it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First we would start by traveling north, up The Hills of Beachwood Canyon and take pictures at the Hollywood Sign. Next we would head to The Iconic Urban lights in Miracle Mile. Now that we worked up an appetite it’s time to eat lunch at Tender Greens. The California Bowl with Salmon and a Kombucha to drink is amazing. Last but not least we can make our way down to Santa Monica Beach for Roller Skating and watch the sun down in Venice. One extra bonus place to visit is in Malibu. It’s called the Point Mugu State Park aka The Dunes.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This shoutout goes to my commercial agent, Pierre Gatling. He is a friend, mentor and the angel guiding me on my journey. My success here in Los Angeles is connected to him and all that he does for his clients. I officially nominate him for agent of a lifetime. From the moment I arrived in the City of Angels, Pierre went above and beyond to help me. He recommended many resources in regards to my acting training. He accompanied me when my car broke down and needed to negotiate for a replacement. He was always there for me through the ups and downs. I remember calling him crying my eyes out because I needed to find a new place to live. He always gave the best advice and pushed me to develop as a person.
