Meet Hudson Long | Actor, Filmmaker, & Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hudson Long and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hudson, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Preparation and attitude are the only two things you can control in this industry.” I’ve been a member of the Ruskin School of Acting in Santa Monica for a few years now.. My instructor, Michael Myers, once told us that with all the uncertainty that comes with auditioning, booking, etc, you ONLY have control over two things: how prepared are you? And how is your attitude about it? Once I truly started to adopt this notion, I felt like I was taking more control and power over my career, and just stopped worrying as much! It’s a beautiful thing to be an artist in LA; never forget that.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I moved out to Los Angeles just shy of age 19. Since my time out here, I’ve had the privilege of doing a feature film, multiple shorts, an extensive amount of theatre, and exploring the underground comedy scene where I get write, act, and play piano in my sketch group.
It’s absolutely crucial to stay busy and stay creatively active in LA. I would advice trying to balance a non-stagnant career with work and personal endeavors that make you truly happy. I fought for years just trying to get my life to the point of being stable and comfortable, but instead, try finding the comfort in instability, because that’s Los Angeles.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If they want pizza, 786° Pizza in Sun Valley. Thai food? Hit up Jitlada in Hollywood. The Apple Pan in West LA is the king of burgers, and you can’t go wrong with Dan Sung Sa’s Korean BBQ in K-Town. Crawfords in Westlake is a dive bar that honestly has the best fried chicken in the city. E.P. & L.P is probably, overall, our best roof-top bar, and the 70s-themed Good Times at Davey Wayne’s is always a fun little blast-to-the-past.
I’m a huge sports fan so I love going to So-Fi in Inglewood. LA’s stadium is considered to be the most advanced, high-tech stadium in the world. If you’re not really into that, Melrose Avenue is a fun place to shop I think. In the evening, see a show at the Geffen, Center Theatre Group, or at one of LA’s many stand-up comedy clubs.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom, dad, and brother have always been my biggest supporters so there’s no way that I could give anybody credit without giving it to them first. They mean the world to me.
During my time in Los Angeles, I have to say that The Ruskin School of Acting in Santa Monica absolutely changed my life and through the Meisner technique, I was able to really establish a solid artistic foundation for what I do..and the people down there just feel like family honestly.
My manager, Gina, also took a chance on me a few years ago when she really didn’t have to; I am so tremendously grateful for all of her help and guidance over the years, it’s been fun!
Lastly, my dog Wile E Coyote is pretty great.
